Ceiling Texture Mix Recipe's

Alright, I'll share.

So you want to do some ceiling texture, and you don't know where to start.

You may or may not have tried it before, but if you have, you know the results can be a little intimidating.

Sorry bad pics, poor lighting,........I might put up new ones, but for now.

My samples, I spent an afternoon mixing different recipes of compound.

I quickly found, it took a lot of thining to get where I wanted.

Here is the four boards I ran out.

Test board #1..Pretty thick, unpredicatable, and hard to maintain pattern.

Test board #2..A little better, but not what I wanted yet.

Test board #3..Just about right.

Mix: 5 gal. of compound, 1 Qt. of water, and 2 Qt. of paint.

Test board #4...a little thinner than I wanted, but still excellent results.

Mix: 5 gal. of compound, 2 Qt. of water, and 2 Qt. of paint.

Re: Ceiling Texture Mix Recipe's

Thanks for taking the time Mr Crow
This helps a lot

Your texturing is the Brush/Dab system, no?

Can you do a 12" swirl?..............

Re: Ceiling Texture Mix Recipe's

Mines the stomp, I haven't done a swirl, but I would try it.

I think the mixes should be about the same, just applied with different methods.

If you get the mix right, I think it will come out ok, especially in a corner.

I roll mine on, then stomp.

I think you could roll, then swoop.

Me, I'd start at 3, and see if you think it needs to be thinner.

Re: Ceiling Texture Mix Recipe's

Nice work...........and thanks again.

I'm headed over to play with this stuff now.

Things I've learned...

Thin the mud with water - paint after
Roll on with 1" nap- swirl away
Test samples
Wallpaper brush
Low room temp - dries slower - longer working time

I'll post some pics.....IF it comes out good......

Re: Ceiling Texture Mix Recipe's

One more for your list, go a little heavier than what you think you need,

Cause it will likely shrink up to what you want, even if you think its a little too heavy.

I just was trying to give you some starting points, obviously different muds may have different moisture content,
soo its play time.
