Tie Roof Into Brick Wall Repair

Any suggestion on how to properly tie a porch roof into a brick wall that has an interior wall that is the old clay block wall as the interior wall. The brick wall fell and damaged a porch roof, the ledger that the roof is tied into has pulled away from the wall.

you need a structural engineer to look it over and determine if the brick veneer can be saved. your picture shows concerning movement to the left. I wonder if any brick ties were ever used during construction...

Good luck with properly anchoring into that wall, there is no ties in that wall and it looks like the brick are solid (no holes for mortar to lock into)

That wall needs to be rebuilt, itís in bad shape and it needs Tuckpointing as well

A structural engineer would need to sign off on that considering you want to tie a roof into that

Better get somebody engineer included who knows what they are doing to check it out just don’t get too close & being open I’m sure it’s getting water in. I worked on a similar situation few years back they had a stack beam w/ 2x10 rafters & 4 of them exploded to splinters & I’ve never seen anything like that & I’ve seen a lot of chit in 40 + years. Have you looked in the attic?

Wall tie failure is quite common here, especially near the coast.

Re: Tie Roof Into Brick Wall Repair

Could be tie failure or in many cases as mentioned above lack of ties that is common around here. If the sub is supplied them ok if not they don’t care. Here I’m sure 80 % aren’t installed properly or not enough. But I think proper support such as in this case is just as important. As I mentioned above rafters exploded into splinters from the weight due to not enough support on a job we did & I had never seen that. Op needs to get in attic & take a look
