Re: Wanted: Old Barn Wood

I am going to build a 40'x60' woodshop with loft and I want to do some trusses out of old beams.

Im trying to go with an old timey feel, brick walls inside and out and old wood.

Re: Wanted: Old Barn Wood

Funny story.

There are tons of old barns up here in the Catskills that are in bad shape.

A contractor rolled into the area and spread the word that he was buying old barns, top price, quick dismantle. A homeowner called him. Contractor offered him 500 bucks for the barn. Homeowner countered at 10 grand. Neither would budge. Two weeks later the barn caved in under a snow load. Homeowner dropped his price to 500 bucks. Contractor countered at 0. Barn got buried.

....well, it's funny up here anyway.

Re: Wanted: Old Barn Wood

i see a few farmers in my area burning the barns down. if i see a barn on its way down i am right there . i have been lucky to get them free so far.they are a bit of work to tear down, but well worth it.
machinery really helps.

Lots of old barns up here in Montana country. Might be a little tough to ship to Texas however. Barn just dismantled near me a couple months ago. I have some old cattle shelters around my place just sittin there.

Re: Wanted: Old Barn Wood

The old barn wood flooring is pretty popular in the bigger houses up here in montana. Guess I am going to have to go into the barn wood business.

Yes, Adam 40k SF.

It is amazing, he had his own 18 hole golf course/60 acre lake.

Webs are you talking about wood submerged, or just drift wood?
