I would move up to a 12" no problem, 16" may be too much but it just depends on the machine and the $$$$.

the "Mother ship" is down, but you may want to check it out when she comes back online...look under "BOYD" (bring out your dead) but sometimes... for some strange reason,,, the Motheship goes dead.... this American is not listed there but I have seen them....worth checking out....and something might be listed in your neck of the woods...

Just to give you some idea on the bargans out there...

this Oliver 192 was just sold to a guy on OWWM for a "you suck" price of $250.00.......

and there aint a single thing wrong with her,,,minor stuff, rubber on the wheels, some adjustments... and it included the original miter gauge,....but she is rock solid and all there..

there out there...

".....8 inch....JOINTer"

I notice how you accentuate "joint" for some reason

Nice piece of equipment. Someone will be real happy.

Re: FS Oliver 144BD 8" Jointer

Clamshell..........yea, the vote is still not in on that topic.... Some guys swear by them, and others, well.....swear at them......

They can be a little dangerous if the blades are installed improperly, that's usually when you see a chunk of Arn missing near the opening...And yes, there have been some nasty injuries.

but proof is in the pudding as far as that Porter, those field tables look like they have shared their life with that cutter head, and those tables look in exceptional condition. That is one nice jointer though....

I prefer the gibed cutter heads myself, I'd yank that clam head out if it was mine.

I don,t know how Cole would feel about having a pinstripe of oil from floor, body to ceiling, to walls....and anything else that's in its path.....You can always tell the guys that use Babbit bearing machinery just by meeting them....

Just a little Babbit humor.....
