Estate Sale In Jersey City - Tools

A customer of mine just gave me a call about an estate sale near her place. Neighbor passed away and the family is out from CA unloading stuff on the cheap.

I went to check it out today and he had the most bizarre grouping of tools. Honestly have no idea what he was up to. There's the better part of a Monarch lathe that he was restoring(?).

Other things I saw:

Bosch plunge router
Bosch planer
Fein vacuum
Boschhammer roto hammer - it was the baby one
Milwaukee roto hammer

Bit sets everywhere - This was probably the most impressive part. There's a set of Freud Forstner bits as well as router bits, there were also all sorts of individual bits that looked to be carbide maybe, they had 4 cutter per bit. Very chunky stuff. I assumed they were used for metal.

Tool boxes. Lots of toolboxes. All US General, which I assume is a Harbor Freight thing based on the feel. At last three mechanic style two tiered units. Couple smaller ones.
One of them is absolutely filled with heavy duty bolts. I have no idea what this guy was up to. Apparently he had severed all family ties some years ago and they also had no idea what he was up to. They said this stuff was just a hobby. I informed them that when you're stocking 5/8" diameter machine screws you have officially passed "hobby".

Anyways, there's some weird stuff in there. It looked to me like he bought mostly Harbor Freight level stuff to get done what he needed to get done, but would go quality when it was necessary. You don't end up with that Fein vacuum unless you know you want a good vacuum.
PM me if you want the address. It's in a building with a doorman(which makes this story even weirder. How did he get that lathe up there!?) so you have to know who to see.

Are they auctioning off the stuff or just looking to unload it to whoever happens to come by?

Pretty sure they just want it gone.

The family is based in CA. They were estranged from the deceased.

A customer of mine is their neighbor. She's volunteered to help the family out with unloading some of the stuff after they head back west. She told me to give her a yell if I know anybody who might be interested in anything.

There's a good chance the 4 carbide cutter per bits were for milling.

I suck at taking pictures and talking at the same time.

Only grabbed two shots.

Didn't grab a picture of the lathe unfortunately, but it's a Monarch brand, and it's really big. hah
That concludes everything I know about lathes.

Can they bring back some of the tools to CA with them so I can buy them?

I'd also like to stress further how ridiculous it is that all of this stuff, including the two ton lathe, is in a 9th floor condo in the middle of Downtown Jersey City.

Did he wheel this stuff in under the cover of darkness or something?

Assembled the lathe in bits and pieces...
I'm surprised the floor hasn't collapsed

Question for the group.

I just got a message from my customer, who is assisting the out-of-state family with selling the remaining items. She wanted to know if there was any other internet based outlets that could be used to spread the word. All they really know is facebook and craigslist.
Any other machinery based swap/shares that you guys know of?

Re: Estate Sale In Jersey City - Tools

I just spoke to the neighbor(my customer) today and they told me they sold almost everything over the last weekend but they were looking to offload some remaining lumber. She snapped a pic and it looked kinda crappy. There were some shelves leftover too.
I have no idea about the unit, but I think most on that floor are rentals. If it's a condo, it'd be high 6, if not 7 figures. Place is enormous with 14 or 15' ceilings. Converted factory.
