How can you write something off as a tax deduction when you purchased it illegally with cash and not paid any tax?

Am I missing something?

Uncle Sam hasn't outlawed cash,.........................yet. There should be no sales tax on used equipment purchased from the owner (not a dealer). There is nothing illegal going on here unless the seller fails to report the sale (possible capital gains tax) on his return.

Cash= reciept = write off.

Pretty old machine, obviously sat outside as bad as the paint is failing, price is still high for what it is, just my opinion. Lots and lots of machines in better shape selling for that price range. Not saying exterior cosmetics take away if the machine is 100% mechanically sound, just stating the obvious that if a guy did'nt care pride in how his equipment looks, how is the driveline and maintenance items going to fare? Paint dont make it run better, but sure would help push the sale since $7500 plus another $1500 in paint, $80 sticker kit....now we're into a $9000 used machine, whole nother budget and more for the money-esspecially right now. Based on what i've been monitoring, $5-5500 might be a better price range in order to move it, otherwise you'll probably be hanging onto this unit for awhile.

here

nother one

these are just two fast checks on equipment on flebay, you can also do some searching on sites like Iron trader.

Thom , I know.

For some reason when I hear cash I always forget about the receipt part between two private parties. Thats why I was wondering how you prove it to the IRS when they ask for it. Thanks for the reminder.
