Re: No More "Edit" Button

Most people that start up commotion and then go back to edit are the ones that have been banned anyway.
I've already posted from my phone and then noticed later from the pc that there was some spelling errors (usually from auto correct) and then fix them.
Looks like this is the first step towards other things like watermarking our photos with a ct emblem... kind of like what tapatalk does.

Re: No More "Edit" Button

I'll edit posts from weeks ago if I see I spelled something wrong. It just bugs the chit out of me.

You are not gonna believe this but I one time read a post by CarpenterSFO that hadn't been edited The post was fine but I believe that if he feels the need to edit every post he should be allowed to do so.

Wow, this thread is getting intense. I mainly just want to be able to keep the "Made in USA Product List" updated without needing help from moderators. However, I also like being able to edit my posts for the other reasons mentioned.

Re: No More "Edit" Button

I believe that spelling errors are not a big deal.....it is what it is..... typing so fast to get your thoughts out there comes with a downside. Errors happen .....personally, we are on a forum , and the forum is about construction- we are human, we make mistakes.........

From my perspective, it's more about changes in thought, or grammar - not so much spelling, .....

I can understand having to put a window on how long you have to edit your post. 1 week would be fair, I would even feel 24hrs is enough time , but 30 min Forum dialog back and forth can move at a fast pace - I'm not writing a book,,,,.. mistakes happen.....I just think you should give people enough time to correct or change their post - and 30 minutes is way to short...........

You are right, we don't. That's because we haven't had to. So that pretty much negates any reason for the change. Unnecessary considering the other issues that need to be addressed.

Re: No More "Edit" Button

Pretend 30 minutes ave gone by.....

Dear Moderator, I made some mistakes in a post earlier today.

I'd like to replace "watt" with "what",
"Everybodies", should be "everyone's",
Underwhere, needs to be replaced with underwear.

Actually, change that entire line to read, "I don't understand why everyone's getting their panties all twisted."

One the second line change "There" to "They're"
Change "they're to "their"
Change "past" to "passed"

One the third line,
Change "your" to "you're"
Change "half" to "have"
"mad" should read "made"
Change "misteak" to "mistake"
"you're" needs to be changed to "your"
"theill" change to "they'll"

The fourth line,
Change "write" to "right"

That should take care of it for now, let me know when you have edited the post so I can proof read it again.

Thanks!

Re: No More "Edit" Button

I guess I understand the perspective that if it ain't broke...and I can see that if there were a good reason to put a limit on it, but after reading some of the comments there have been some great points. I just assumed that it was technical issue, but I can see how I would want to maintain control of my posts.

The fact that some MODs disagree and are no on board with the change makes me question the decision.

Re: No More "Edit" Button

Here's another point. I link many of my pictures in my threads, like many others do as well. What is to stop anyone from changing the picture uploaded to gay **** or something later on? It doesn't register to the moderator staff, it's a silent edit, and at the moment, completely impossible to detect and prevent years from now someone doing. How is it any different than the edit function?

For what it's worth, a little focussed feedback to a user is another way to solve the problem (if there actually is one). A few users have commented about my editing, and in response I've changed how I use C.T. I don't believe that I ever obscured anything by editing, but I could be wrong.

Although I may be the worst/most prolific editor, the decision isn't a problem for me. I don't think it will have any beneficial effect on C.T. to change the edit policy, but I also don't think it will hurt anything. C.T. is a changing place, with new members and owners with corporate goals and concerns, and most of us should be capable of changing with it. IMO.

Seems to be just old threads but I can't be sure. I just deleted a whole bunch a little while ago, the ones I have got since are from older threads.

And you'll need to supply the edit-capable person a link to each and every instance of this too. It's all about the integrity.
