Case in point.... if I just added my emphasis line from Post #160 at the end of the post now at this point...

"Class, time's up... pencils down... no more "edits"...

Would that make any sense without the context of the rest of the post?

Lol Not really, probably. But it's an interesting read. I'm just amazed at how controversial this edit-gate scandal is. I probably should just quit reading it, but it's such a hot topic...

I'm sure there are things I find completely unimportant, but you may find relevant to yourself. This obviously is not just one or two forum members who are disappointed in this change.

Re: No More "Edit" Button

I'm a little confused by the point of the new rule. As a member we only have 30 minutes to change a post but if we want it changed after that, there is no problem having a moderator change it? What difference does it make if it is the member that changes it or if it is a moderator that changes it (by request of the member)?

Re: No More "Edit" Button

You know when we used to have issues about the forum Nathan would at least chime in and address our concerns. It feels like now we are just a product of the corporate rift raft and we don't count anymore. Where is the person that decided to make this rule? I challenge them to come forward and introduce themselves and man up to us. I would love to hear exactly why this topic is such a priority now but wasn't for the last 10 years.

They dont want some member getting pissed and erasing all his posts. It screws the library up.

Thats the powers that be decision to get someone to just edit posts for you. I would lean towards saying, I doubt it.
Didn't say you guys did made the rule. My thinking is because you cannot be truly objective and already thinking that people will request edits as a punishment is proof.

Here's what you do, nothing. If you aren't going to honor all requests, you shouldn't honor any. If 30 minutes is the rule, 30 minutes it is.

Is that really that common of a problem?

But it was fine for ten years. Unlike Nathan the forum powers to be don't seem to be an integral part of the conversations anyway, so what does it matter to them? Has there been a bunch of complaints. It's easier to ban the guys that are the problem makers not ban everyone from editing.

I'll make Tins point. Show us where that has happened. We can what if this to death, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a rule that was made for an exception and not the typical.

Are you guys saying that your examples of why happen enough to warrant the change?

Has this become a problem? I don't ever remember reading any thread that looked like that and even if that was the case, the mods who have posted here have said they can see the edit and/or deletes and restore them if necessary...

After all, if your posts are not yours once you submit them, I guess the mods can deal with it any way they want, yes?...

I hadnt seen it much here, but I have seen it, especially old threads. Some are unreadable.

I dont know much about these folks, but they own more than one forum. I imagine they have a reason for their systems. When a new owner comes in things change a bit.

Again, will the person who owns this place come out like a man and explain some of this chit to us?

I aint going on an all night hunt for it. Like I said, it isnt common here. I am not defending the rule, as I posted earlier, I dont like it either.

As to the 30 second rule, I will edit what I feel it is appropriate. Just like all other decisions we make.

I am getting the impression that it matters little what we think of this new rule...

Not necessarily from the Mods, but the geek squad and owners...
