Can I Create A Small Forum For A Committee To Communicate Like This Forum

Is there a way to create a small forum for my local cdc commitee to communicate on issues we want to discuss.

Currently we reply all to emails, but this tends to bomb the mailbox with insignificant replies.

The committee is 12-15 members and we often have difficulty making it to the physical meetings once a month. The meetings often take a lot of time reviewing past decisions and discussing the merits of new ideas. While the discussion is great, we end up with marathon meetings to get through everything.

My thought is the disussion could be online prior to the meeting and then the easiest decisions can be rubber stamped giving more time to delicate or complex decisions.

Anyone doing something like this, or have advice regarding similar situations.

Yes create a Facebook account if you don't already have one. Then create a "group" or page in which only those you invite are able to participate.

Sure.... ll you need to do is purchase "vBulletin Board" software (I believe this forum is a vBulletin Board software platform) or any other brand of bulletin board software. Secure a domain address and set up your forum.

Is this hidden from the public or open?

You can make the facebook group a "secret" group that only the members have access to.

You could also use something like this as well...http://www.gotomeeting.com/fec/

It's your choice. You can make it public or private. You can choose who you want to attend or not attend. You can post videos, photos, etc... It's all very simple and free too.

I would suggest setting up a private group on LinkedIn.com. You can invite your members to join, you can have multiple discussions in which any of your members can participate, do polling etc.

This is a free service.

Re: Can I Create A Small Forum For A Committee To Communicate Like This Forum

I have done the same thing locally using fb platform. We call it keeping business local. It has been successful so far. We almost 50 contributing members 100% local business owners who have been referring and sharings news and ideas with each other.

Not hard to do. Concentrate on getting everyone involved. We are posting 3 min intro videos for our members now. We plan to publicize a mailing like a reach magazine meets fine home building.

We are also targeting new homeowners and people who are new to the area featuring groups of trusted locally vetted vendors. Guess who the remodeler is...

I got to hand it to a Matt, you are one ambitious mo fo. With that many people involved is there any concern of negative effects of bidding against each other?

Sure but the ones that could do already. There is enough for everyone and the goal is to establish a good ole boys network which the public can benefit from. If participation and interest continues to grow like it has so far the potential is limitless.

And if we are keeping it real I intend as one of the organizers to limit MY competition.

So you are kind of like a small self organized union...joking! I think it's a great concept. Networking seems to be more and more valuable.
