Re: Basement Waterproofing

Back in the day, the masons used to lay up the 8" concrete block and back plaster every few courses, reaching around from the inside. The outside was "waterproofed" with some tar out of a bucket. It was brushed on with wide brushes.

Nowadays, the poured concrete is sprayed with some coating, looking much like paint.

I've also seen the rolled sheet materials which comes prolly in 8 and 9' heights which is attached to the wall somehow.

Maybe you could discuss a bit about the options we have today.

I have a 1970 concrete block basement project which we can hopefully get to later on.

Is this an introduction?

It seems more like "Hey I am here now, so I will field your questions".

Regardless, welcome to the forum.

If you can't dazzle them with your brilliance, blind them with your bull s$%t as my grandfather said of anyone who knew it all about everything. He was a funny, funny man. Welcome, I am ready to be blinded!

Jesse,

Don't let any of these bastards in the welcoming committee frazzle you. It's just a strange initiation rite.

After all, they probably just want you to buy them a donut.

Later on, you can send them some virtual donuts, then some virtual pictures of where those donuts have been!!!

Powder with jelly or chocolate frosted. The latter requires COLD organic whole milk, thanks again.

The old Victorian basements here had walls 18inch brickwork, and externally covered with a couple of coats of hot mastic ashphalt.
Don't know what you think of this method, but a lot of them are still OK.
Recently in the London area firms have been digging out basements under existing houses in the city to add extra room. This is quite big business now. Saw one being done on TV which was a bit close to the Thames and the water was flooding into the site.

Re: Basement Waterproofing

Jessie I waterproof showers here in Vancouver and have wondered if any of my techniques would work for basements. Have you ever used products like Red Guard, Hydro Ban or Aqua Defence on basement walls?
