Re: I’m An Idiot And Leave My Trailer Doors Open Too Often

Yea I’ve only been hauling trailers around for 40 plus years now & may have lost a piece of flashing here or there but can’t recall anything coming off a trailer & always tie down much less make sure the doors on the enclosed are secure. Got a few certificates under my belt as well but there is no excuse for not being safe period. Safety 1st or do they not teach that any more. But I guess since they are going to put reminders that your infant flesh & blood is in the back seat I guess the next guy that drops a piece of rebar & impales somebody he can say his reminder failed. Put the L on the forehead to go along with the s then you will have stupid and lazy or don’t care whatever you choose

You guys being so harsh with the OP are apparently superhuman enough to have never had a brain fart moment. Why do you even deign to converse with us mere mortals?

I've left a thing or three on the highway over the years. It happens. Don't diss a guy for wanting to prevent that.

You didn’t even read my post, did you.

I said I’m not criticizing a guy for forgetting, I think it’s bizarre how no one can function without an app hooked up to his phone.

But hey, if that’s what every one wants to do, more power to them.

I’ll keep trying to function like God intended us to, by using our heads, nor an “app”

If that doesn’t work for some of you.......no skin off my back.

Why assume he wants a phone app "for every damned thing"?

Whatever

Iím done here.

I have better things to do with my time, than try to find an ďappĒ for some dude who canít keep his back door shut.

And for the record, Iíve been generally helpful here for the past 10 years.

Too bad I canít find yíall the right ďappĒ.

Isn't that what OP is doing? Being safe? Door pops open even though he checks and double checks, so he's trying to find a solution. Some gizmo like the dummy light that tells me when my dump bed is raised (always laughed at that one), or the ideas he got from some others (bolt, pin, lock existing latch. Maybe replace latch?).
Seems fairly responsible to me.

Re: I’m An Idiot And Leave My Trailer Doors Open Too Often

Having the 'door ajar' sensors on every vehicle is standard and I'm sure everyone has noticed they didn't quite shut there door in their trucks before. It's not that crazy to think the same technology would be a helpful safety feature if it extended to the trailer.

You guys berating everyone who asks a question that you don't approve of is really tough to even read. Why be so unlikeable and simultaneously piss yourselves off?

Just...do...something...else..

I have two backup cameras, one for traffic, and one that points down at the trailer hitch. With the second one, I can see if my door is open or not.

Iím in the habit now of double checking using the camera and toggling between views.

They are not unlikeable to me,, I think they are funny.. Not checking to see if you rig is secure before you take off is so stupid I would never even mention it. Gee I left my back door open and lost a dewalt box full of power tools on the free way if only I had an app for that

Try this; do a walk around before you take off.

Well, it was cheaper than designing and launching an app that tells me if I left the door open.

If the door was closed, then swung open, maybe there's an issue with the locks and/or bolts.

Re: I’m An Idiot And Leave My Trailer Doors Open Too Often

I see a whole lot of overthinking & over reacting in this thread.

I'm still not understanding how the latch comes open on it's own. All my trailers require you to push in the handle to get it down into the holder to close the latch. Thus, being spring loaded & keeping pressure on the latch. If you're locking system doesn't have it's spring back, I suggest you start there & figure out why your latch is defective.

A backup, backup camera. Redundancy is very underrated.

The real question here is: Does the second one cancel out the first one, so you just end up looking forward, but through a tiny screen?
