Anyone have any experience with either and what do you think?

Was looking at different options for my wifes new car at the end of the year. Bang for the buck would be the Toyota Highlander because they are getting a full redesign for 2020 and my sales manager buddy says they will deal on them and the manufacturer will be doing incentives as well.

The Palisade and Telluride get really good reviews too and have some cool features. Just curious if they hold a candle to Toyota or not. At this point in life I just dont want the headache of having to fix anything and my wife has her options she likes instead of telling me we should have just spent the extra couple grand.

My only true automotive catastrophe was my wife's Elantra.
We bought it used and had it brought to a mechanic that was local to the dealership to have the timing chain inspected. My Mom has only own Hyundais for the past 20 years and loves them, but told me you HAVE to change the chain at 125k OR ELSE.
Car was at around 105ish when we bought it I think, so we had them take a look. He said it looked new so I took him at his word.
About a year or two later we're now at 130k on the engine and my wife tells me the car feels weird. I check it out. It's got a slight belt sounding whine and the dash electronics are dimming. I figure this is alternator all day and tell her to switch cars with me the next day and I'll change it on my lunch break. She refuses, stating that my "stupid Jeep drives like a tractor."
So yeah, she took it to work the next day and the engine blew up. Oops. RIP $2500.
The engine seizing created enough pressure to explode the radiator too, so it was kind of cool to see that was possible. Silver lining I guess.

Within a year I bought my van and she started driving the Jeep full time and loved it. Girls. Sheesh.
