The only bad part about a 5.9 cummins was the dodge it was wrapped in.

Re: Going To Sell My 5.9 Cummins 3500

Bam, the 6.6 is good for at least 300k without any major trouble as long as someone didnt have it all tuned up and hotdoging it. One of the things I've seen destroy the chevy's is someone will build on the allison (for speed), crank up rail pressure and not put a big enough cold air intake on it, of course they straight pipe but dont replace the entire exhaust. EGT raise super high and cook the engine over time.

Another one of the things (I think the LBY 6.6) was the fuel injectors would go bad fairly quickly. They're expensive too and everything being computerized 1 injector goes bad and you'll find yourself changing a bank of them. OHM them out and if they are all between .4 and .6 you're fine. Close is key. I don't know how they are changing on the chevy but on my Dodge it took a couple hours to change one but a bosch injector ran about $450 and I had to have one same day so ended up spending $525. The injector problem cost a buddy of mine right about 2k and he did the work. Front end can go bad too but Im not real familiar with the model, just not as much ass to them as ford or dodge.

They are the best looking truck on the market though. Good engine when tbey had Isuzu start making them the Duramax and got rid of Detroit diesel (I think in '00).

So short story long, you'll have some maintenance (as with anything) but could easily see north of 300k miles. Dream is a 5.9 in a Ford with the Allison tranny.

You got that right! But hey, my dash never cracked

We call the dodge's door trucks because the doors fall off before the engine stops.

92 and 93 was the peak.

Although I really like the looks of the 2012 or 13 and up, 4500 crewcab and chassis.

I have always been a fan of the Chevy look. Fords looked real good in the 90's. Dodge 2nd gen cummins weren't bad, mine looks like a big vagina. Best looking new truck is the Ford in my opinion.

I just don't trust any of the new diesels with all the crap they do to them now. They have electrical assist steering, what the is that?

2 of our 6.6 are just south of 300k, I've done nothing besides oil changes, breaks and tires

I think dodge makes the best looking new truck.

The new front end rivals fords too.
I was about to buy a new dodge with a manual transmission, but I found this f350 and got that instead.

In reality I think they are all pretty well made. Light years ahead of the 90's

If you're looking at private sale, a quick view of Craigslist for your area as one marker (i.e. - competition), it seems your $18K is in the ballpark...

Add NADA and Blue Book value, and you should be able to square it...

Of course, ya' gotta' clean it first...

Best of luck...

I was curious so I looked up some local trucks that compare.

For comparison.

179k miles = 288k KM
$12,000 USD= $15,000 CAD

Hopefully you get $18k for yours, but there is no way on this earth I would pay that. $18k for a truck with 180k miles

Maybe I'm just lucky that oil prices crashed and the rig pigs are liquidating their cummins trucks
