Ford Transit With Ladder Racks And Towing.

I am considering replacing my 2007 E250. It has been a great van.
I am interested in the Transit. I will need to carry ladders and walk boards on ladder racks.
Do any of you have ladder racks on the medium height (100") van? My current van is 80" tall and 100" seems too high to stack ladders on top. So I am thinking staying with the 83" transit.
Next comes my thoughts regarding towing, the 130" WB has a cargo area length just barely longer than I currently have, and more room would be nice. The longest WB I think will be too long for towing a trailer due to the extended body. That leaves the 148" WB.

So my thinking is 83" height, 148" WB. Add ladder racks and tow hitch for my 14' enclosed trailer. No diesel. The 3.5 Turbo motor sounds like it will have plenty of power for towing.
I am hoping I can get a good deal on a new 2016 or 2017.

Does anyone have this set up? I appreciate any thoughts or comments or corrections to my thinking.
Thanks.

I am curious about this too. Our 2001 E350 will most likely be replaced this year. Leaning towards the Transit. I would like to be able to tow our covered trailer with it and we also have a ladder rack.

Here is a thread with quite a bit of info.

There are also forums dedicated to the Transit you might want to spend more than a few hours on before making such a major decision.

Of course going and test driving one would be good too. When it comes to purchasing you are going to want to work with the internet sales manager via the internet with no phone numbers only email.

Re: Ford Transit With Ladder Racks And Towing.

I am currently in 17 mid roof. I have a ladder rack , with the ladder on the back door.
I mounted a scaffold plank, on the rack. So far not as much a hassle as I thought pulling ladders up and down. The roller bar on the back makes it simple enough .
The cost of the three individual pieces is a little pricey for a functional ladder rack IMO.

I've yet to tow with it. Supposed to load 30 or so scaffold buck, planks tomorrow on a small landscape trailer . I don't think trailer would be any issue. Guy on a job I was at, was pulling his 14ft dump trailer regularly he said, no problem .

Again had to pay to have the tow package, and the dealer explained it like if you don't get the tow package none of the wiring is installed at all. So you can't take it to your local trailer place and have just a receiver put on. Also it has a tow package but no trailer brakes, the plug in is there but you gotta buy the actuator separate . That seemed dumb to me when you paid for the tow package just thought it should be in already.

Re: Ford Transit With Ladder Racks And Towing.

I have noticed a few mid height Transit's with ladder racks. The roller bar looks like it would really help, BUT I also have noticed everyone's ladder racks only have one ladder high on them. Obviously the roller bar is of little value when stacking ladders two or three tall.
The obvious solution is to carry less ladders or just have two people load ladders over the side while standing on step ladders, which isn't far off what I / we do now. Easier on my back anyway.
I am really just thinking out loud.

I carry multiple ladders, I just got some u bolts and mounted a plank for a wallboard.

Lean the ladder on the back and pull them up. The roll bar makes it easy.
