Re: TS55 REQ Recall

I was of the opinion that festool was an over priced glorified tool company. My dealer got me to USE some of his demo stuff. It was a no brainer that the equipment made the jobs easier and therefore made me more money. I have no loyalty towards any company just the ones who make life easier. I can build a bad ass deck with a hand saw, box plane, sanding block, hammer, nails, a screwdriver, and a chisel but it doesn't make it a wise decision.

As far as getting something for free... I do videos for my exotic lumber distributor alot and they give me great deals on exotics, its good business to help those that help you, so I don't understand why some guys make numbers so personal.

So are these in stock anywhere? Online retailers show out of stock (CPO, Amazon, etc).

Re: TS55 REQ Recall

I emailed festool a few weeks back. The reply was this:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting Festool USA. Festool USA is investigating a potential issue with the plunge mechanism on some TS 55 REQ plunge-cut saws. Under certain circumstances, the saw blade may remain exposed from the housing following completion of the cut. Festool USA has reported this potential issue to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

We appreciate your patience through this process and will provide further information as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Festool Service

I would wait. It's a nicer saw than the Makita. It shouldn't be much longer. My new one don't have the issue but I swapped mine out before they cleared them out from every where on the "recall"

Sorry I edited my first response - might be confusing. Yeah I might wait. Between job sites now (designing more jobs in the office right now), I needed the track saw on the last 3 jobs we finished. "Needed" meaning if we had one it would have made the work much quicker and cleaner, all three jobs were occupied remodels. Just makes sense to get one now.

Re: TS55 REQ Recall

I sold my TS55 to upgrade to 55R a couple months ago. Found that it had the hang up issue when retracting, but saw that its an easy 2 minute fix with a small file. No more hang ups.

I still have my old one and it functions perfectly. Even after the new one was released. Was there anything special about the req except the ability to cut closer to a wall?

Yes there were def improvements over the 55. cost me hardly anything to upgrade after selling mine locally. Basically cost me about the same as what a new blade would have cost me to buy lol and i got a new blade on my new one.

There could be worse things in life. If Festool doesn't restock dealers with the next month, I'm just gonna get the Makita. We have two trim job coming up as well as cabinetry install (new construction whole house).

I'm sure it is. I would wait to have the festool because it is a component of a larger system.

Got an email back from Debby at Festool USA today. They're still waiting for the Consumer Product Safety Commission (not sure what about).
