So Whats The Verdict? Kapex Or Makita????

Hey all It's my 1st time so take it easy on me.
Just sold off 2-of the big yellow 12" sliders and looking at makita 10" slider and kapex? Although about 70% of our business is deck building dust really isn't a that big of deal except for when it's ipe or an interior renovation. We downtown in downtown Phila and do not have driveways and or a lot of space to work with. We deal with elevators, 2-4flights of stairs, and side walks or even taking over a parking spot or two on a daily bases. We also have a need for miter saw maybe 40-50% of the time.
We already have few of the festools like the 1400 router, tracks but matched up with the makita plung saw. I just could see paying almost $600 for something that does exactly the same job and I mean exactly for around $250. And lets not forget there fancy vacuums.

More like 500$

Re: So Whats The Verdict? Kapex Or Makita????

Kapex is a beautiful saw....but

I have been involved in some very high end work over the years...

My weapon of choice is & has been Makita...

When the first Miter Saws came out they were a Finish Carpenter's dream...

Then the SCMS...holy cow....

My current set up is a pair of Makita LS1012's with Forrest Chopmaster blades.

Makita's hold up to transport, job site & employee abuse & produce consistent results...

Tough stuff to beat....oh yea a shop vac will connect to them...

No, I had one for my dewalt and I couldn't see it outside. Do you know if they make one designed to see outdoors?

I use my saw mainly for railing and I also found the laser wasnt accurate enough for my liking. It's been a few years since I've used the dewalt so I'm am curios to know if something better has come out.

I really like that Bosch a lot, I got the stand free with the purchase of the saw.

They all have the ability to have a shop vac connection, but the question for me would be how efficient is the Makita at dust collection? I tested the kapex, I can't wait to get one.

The Kapex is big overkill for decks. No need to spend that kind of cash on a deck saw.

Bull crap. It is perfect for deck work, especially the big high dollar ones.

It is a great saw, if someone wants it, go get it.
It really is not that much money.

I have both, I do however keep the kapex for finish work, and the Makita for all around day to day use! Not that the kapex won't handle it just because it's more of a precision saw! Check Craigslist I bought it like $850 from a homeowner, it's def worth the cost!

If you're going to carry 2-4 flights of stairs, I think I would go with the Kapex.

Re: So Whats The Verdict? Kapex Or Makita????

Hey 5star already did that with cash hand the bastard said no way. I think the 700-800 price is perfect. but they think there gold or something. It's still a miter saw. Any way as you can tell I'm not in too much of a hurry so I don't mind lurking around cl for a used one. I ordered a refurbished from cpo outlets at 399.00 free s/h and no tax they have a great return policy again with no s/h charges either way. I wan to see how the dust collection works. if it sucks they i'll go for the green. Last year we went broke the 10,000ft mark of ipe mark and burt out 2-10hitachi sliders that I had for about 5-6years. no tears shed the saws served me well with thousands of cuts on trim framing and decking. dust collection was not too bad after i rigged up self stick 15mil roofing underlayment as side / rear flaps.

i don't question the cost. I'll be in allentown / lehigh valley next weekend so I'll pop in the woodcraft store they have a demo set up to try.

thanks guys.

Re: So Whats The Verdict? Kapex Or Makita????

hey gary h. it's not the kid. I a cpl of them that do nothing but hump. it's the size and capacity thats the issue. i would be happy with the makita 7.1/4 or the hitachi 8.5 but they do work for our needs and have a fairly large foot print.
