Never Buying Dickies Boots Again!!!!

As the title may suggest, i am extremely unhappy with my new Dickies boots http://www.ihlcanada.com/BOOTS13CLU.HTML)
I was out plowing snow with my friend on Friday night, and i was hand shovelling walk ways and stairs and what not. I was not standing in snow for long periods of time, and i cleaned off any snow before getting into the truck. The first few hours were dandy, no problems. As the night went on, my feet started to get more and more soaked. By 2 am it was almost unbearable, it wasn't cold but just walking in it and having splashing in your shoe... not fun. At 3 when i got in, i took my boot off to find 1/4" of water inside. That is why i am so pissed off. Brand new boots, they don't take waterproofer, and the are brand new!! And they leak??? I am gonna call them tomorrow and call the store i bought em from, no wonder they are final sale!! Chris picked my wet ones up and even he was like "thats pretty nuts"
That being said they better have a good excuse for me.
Anyone else have this issue?

Yup...I second it for Bean...1 pair 10" lace-up boots, 1 pair pull-on boots, 1 pair insulated pull-on boots, 1 pair low-cut tie-up. I'm getting ready to send the lace-up boots in for the second refurbishing.
If more companies acted like L.L Bean, the world would be a better place.
I make my own concoction of water repellant stuff from an old recipe I got on the net years ago.

Took a while to find the link. This guy "Bob Smalser" was an amazing man. I don't even know if he's still alive but I used to follow his threads at a couple different woodworking sites years ago. This guy was the god when it came to just about anything covering old-fashion woodworking techniques, sailing boats and repair, leather, etc, etc, etc.
He was truly one of the last of his kind. He always posted pictures along with great instructions for how to do something. It seems like it was always outside, under adverse consitions where he was chiseling out the rear part of a boat where the rudder would lie or something weird like that. Truly, truly amazing.
Anyway...here is the link to his "recipe" I followed it to the "T". It took a while to gather some of the stuff...pine tar. I made a gallon, which should last a whole town about 10 years.
It works great. I have some oilskin clothing and boots I use it on.
Uhhh...you probably don't want to use it on something the wife is using. It's for outdoor use only...it is a tad odiferous.

Edit: Thought you were talking about the lace-up Beans. Ooops.

When it's just raining or muddy I wear them. Yeah, they are pretty waterproof. If you are going to stand in 6" of water...no.

When I'm gonna be walking around in the snow, I wear the insulated pull-ons.

If I'm going to be in standing water...rubber boots.

I'm 58. I made a pledge years ago...I will never be wet or cold if I can help it.

Re: Never Buying Dickies Boots Again!!!!

red wings my boy

seriously, these boots will outlast circles around others, and are as waterproof as a pair of golashes.

The pair I have on right now are 2 years old, and you'd never know it.
