Bosch PR20EVSK Colt Router Bearings

After three years and plums of MDF dust and using "large" bits and deep cuts, my Bosch Colt Palm Router bearings are starting to fail. They are getting louder so before anything happens I am replacing them.

Bought this bearing for the lower bearing, MUCH higher quality. Stock they are just regular sealed bearings, this is a sealed ABEC-3 Ceramic hybrid...should run smoother.

While I am there, I am replacing the upper bearing as well

I will take some photos and post up some intructions when the bearings come in and I get around to installing them.

Re: Bosch PR20EVSK Colt Router Bearings

Just buy a new one. They are what 125 bucks?

IMO, that is a throw away router.

I threw mine away and the bearings were just fine.

For $25 I upgraded the router....instead of paying $125 for the same thing.

Re: Bosch PR20EVSK Colt Router Bearings

so, 125 bucks for it.

35-45 in parts/cleaner's.

at least an hour of your time.

so that is about 100 bucks.

it would be different if it was a 300 dollar unit but, in reality it is a disposable unit.

$25 in parts...no cleaner...half hour of time... we are still under $125.

Your really becoming obnoixious with that Festool crap...everything is just not worth anything unless its Festool.

Did I say buy one, no I said it is not worth it for a 100 router.

What concern is it of yours what I do with my time?

Are you my mother or my old lady?

I have a little free time when I watch my kids.

It is a disposable tool.

My time is better used for something besides changing bearings in a 100.00 router.

Who pissed in your Cheerio's?

Besides, if you can follow along and read, that was directed at someone else anyways.

really...

you see, to take the trim router and screw driver, spend half hour installing two bearings is what I do. I don't spend hours mindlessly sitting on a computer or watching TV...I always have liked to tinker with things and have no problem or frustrations when doing so. If you want to put dollar signs on everything in life you have fun living that life style.

So when I feel like I need to replace the bearing for my router I order them and when I get around to it one evening, I put them in.

We all have our own way of doing things and for whatever reason.. we don't all buy/fix/repair/ place value on our tools the same way as our associates..
I've had a few tell me ARN is scrap.. and that's ok I am on the other side of the country as far as that opinion goes.. but it's ok.
We all have our own way... ..

Re: Bosch PR20EVSK Colt Router Bearings

I can appreciate that Inner...
Hey..
you could make my world better as well...
I have this jointer I am looking at possibly getting and your not far away..
Now...
I am worried about cracking the corners on this beast during transit..
it's 16" wide by 98" long and weighs in at 2200lbs..
now.
what I need you for is .. to come over here and help me rucker this thing...your sorta like the packaging guy...
now what i need you to do is get inside the box cab and me and another guy are going to push this beast up the ramp...
now this is crucial...cause it's going to happen real fast...
When we get it up to the top- I need you to sorta bend down at eye level with the planer,... at that point - I want you to open that big mouth of yours cause 2200lbs of ARN are coming your way....
problem solved... and you have to ride with it in the box..obviosly.. interested...

Re: Bosch PR20EVSK Colt Router Bearings

I'm use to having a mouth full of iron flying at me. I did that sort of work most of my young life helping my father install commercial appliances...Only pay I ever got was a coke from the corner store.

Don't worry about transporting it, I'll walk it to ya with a crow bar and 2 chunks of iron pipe for a case of coke...just like old times.

Soooo,

With the new bearings you end up w/ one better than new. I posted a link for these at $80 earlier this week. I wouldn't mind buying a new one and throwing the upgraded bearings in.

Question:
How did you figure out what the upgraded bearings were? Did you just look up the existing sizes on "ereplacementparts.com" and find the equivalent? Could be a real useful tip down the road for other equipment as well seeing as how the only bearing shop in the area closed down a few months back.

Re: Bosch PR20EVSK Colt Router Bearings

I have done that in the past, some times they say what bearing it is in the small print...but most times I just open the tool up and take a peak. With the new bearings, I should end up with a quieter, smoother running router. The bearing have a higher ABEC rating...higher rating mean the bearing are put together with higher precision. That all means smoother, cooler, quieter running bearings.
