Bosch Laser Measuring Device..I Love It!

I was so skeptical about those things but after seeing a nice sale on this one for $80 I sprung for it and glad I did.
I checked it over and over against my tape measures and it was "dead on". In a lot of cases it works a whole lot better than my tape measure.

It now has a permanent place in my tool belt.

Was building some oak stairs this week and needed to take several floor to ceiling measurements for the three stringers. Mannnnnn did this thing make it easy.

Then I needed to add a 14'+ ceiling joist and a cpl of headers for the stairwell. Stood on my ladder and shot a 14'2 5/8" measurement across the ceiling for the joist.
No hassling with the tape measure...although I will say I did check it with my ruler. No comparison. The laser distance measurer was night and day over the tape measure.
I love this thing...how'd I live without it all these years?

I can see it paying for itself very quickly!

Bought one a few years ago. I hardly use it but that because I forgot i had it until you reminded me. Will give it a try again. I know Hilti makes a nice on too.

I can understand that. If I didn't keep it right in my tool belt I probably'd forget I had it too. It's one of those things with a tool like this....you just don't run and get it...you use what you already have in your belt but since I keep it there now I use it a lot. things up close I don't bother but when I have to stretch the tape out a distance I reach for the laser. Also...when I go from one flat surface with no edges like a floor to the ceiling it's much more accurate than bending the tape measure and sorta eyeballing an exact measurement. In the old days when it was important like for the stringers...I'd use my folding ruler with the sliding metal edge to get an exact measurment.
edit: Oh yeh...it's nice that it can automatically add up the sq footage of an area with the push of a button among several other simple to use functions.

Re: Bosch Laser Measuring Device..I Love It!

Kids got together and bought me a Leica D3 for Christmas.
Ya, I was overjoyed, wondering how & when the hell would I ever use this thing. Had to act thrilled. The dogs freaked at chasing the little red dot around the floor. I can not believe how much I actually use it now. Not for the dogs but actually measuring stuff. Pretty cool & way accurate.

I have a Leica D3, and use it all the time. Invaluable for trim work, and deadly accurate. It has had a dedicated spot in my pouch for a couple years now.

ditto. I use the hilti for trim work- way easier!!!! measuring for crown on top of a ladder? no problem!

and for doing estimates its fast! I don't use the "total" function though as there are usually several little bobbles/returns in rooms where its just faster to stuff the tape measure in.

Yeah...I got the bosch unit for a job where I was going to hang some crown solo...and needed it done fast...Now I use it ALL the time for estimates and I even use it on jobs where I want to figure out which size ladder to bring... will the 24 footer work or do I need the 28 footer...

Yep, got the Hilti PD40, and use it way more than I thought I would. Well worth the money.

Re: Bosch Laser Measuring Device..I Love It!

Just used mine again today...client asked to have a bunch of corner trim replaced with Azek... Now I have all the corner trim made up at home and cut to length....just a big day of R+I tommorrow....wish my yard had 3/4" Azek corner trim tho...would have saved me a bunch of pocket screwing.

I now have the Hilti PD40 and PD4, love em, no need for the 40 though everything I do the 4 is fine.

I bought the bosch model for a job hanging sound panels in a large room-it was invaluable for getting the height and spacing just right-excellent investment.

Re: Bosch Laser Measuring Device..I Love It!

I got this toy about a month ago... I love it, been kicking my self for not getting it sooner, this thing is great for measuring basements rooms kitchens, everything... Best is the laser beam, especially when a HO is a pain, you start using it as a pointer and if you move it side to side a little faster, you will see HO's head going side to side in the same pace
