Besides the case?

I have the older version of that one. No rubber on it.

it is a great lightweight saw. Does everything I ask and more.

Makita Magnesium saws are great and even the regular Makita saws are the best from my use.

If you mean wormdrives, then yeah, Skil. hah

If you meant circulars then I'll sign on for the newer Makita sidewinders. I actually don't know exactly what model we have in our shop, but it was purchased last year, has some rubber grips on it, and makes a nice smooth cut. The guard is well engineered too and doesn't hang up on 2x's like a lot of other saws do. That drives me crazy.

For sidewinders, yeah, makita is a solid saw.

Re: Best Skilsaw Under $ 200

How well do the Mag bases hold up? None of my existing saws have taken a big enough dive to kill them, just bend the base plate a bit. But they can be straightened, although there are limits.

ding ding ding. this guy wins. find an older makita, some stores still sell them, or have them around. just bought one last week that was on display. i asked the guy if i could buy it, he told me no at first, because there were alot on the shelf. i said no no, they are different, he insisted they werent. but they were, obviously i know what i want, and he is some kid who has probably never used one. 120$ later, i had a nice 'retro' makita.
i also like my green hitachi. was about 90$ and has been good to me.

I might give it a go when my Mag 77 dies, but since it's a good 'ol "Made in USA" saw, it will probably outlast me.

Re: Best Skilsaw Under $ 200

I have been using the porter cable 423mag circular saws with good results. I am hooked on left hand blade so getting a left hand blade circular saw is tough. So far the manufacturer hasn't f***d up this saw like the rest of the porter cable line up but I'm assuming I will need to find another saw at some point
