I have a Bosch and it's great fr me.
The Hilti brand are supposed to be good but pricey.

Re: Best Rotary Laser 2019

Of those you listed, I'd take the TopCon.

Topcon is a good choice so is Spectra.

This will no doubt turn into a Ford, Chevy, Dodge debate....

Re: Best Rotary Laser 2019

For my needs Iím in the sub $1000k range.

The topcon rl 5ha looks great.

400m is plenty of range.

Whatís up with the slopes? If I was cutting a 5% grade Iíd set it and just grade stake down a constant 4ish feet (standing height) to target grade?

I was into bosch lasers for a minute but their new top shelf is suffering in the reviews. The one with the automatic receiver finding.

Just looking at the specs I see it has less range and a lower IP65 protection rating BUT they seem to be marketing this laser as something that can really take job abuse, are there other features that set it apart?

Does it have to be rotary? I have a 360ļ*fixed plane laser that uses a receiver.

Three things. Mine fell in a pool and worked fine after. The other is the last reciever has inches readout. So you can actually tell exactly how much you're off level. The third is the actual elevation rod. You can adjust the reciever up and down without loosening the reciever clamp. Little things but that's what's always the deal breaker. Imo.

Tom,

I have a bosch 3 plane fixed red laser and it just doesnít have the range outside (even with receiver).

I did look for a rotary from the Beiter company Iíve seen you recommend. What do you like about that company? They do seem to have great value and accessories.

Fell in a pool! Thatís awesome, stabila would have bought that footage if you had it. That is worst case scenario second to being run over.

I didnít like the form factor but itís growing on me.

What I really like is the three power options, all included in the kit I go. It sets up easily, can lock it for pitch work.

Accessories are very helpful.

Re: Best Rotary Laser 2019

Man that stabila LAR 350 looks good!

What I like about it is the vertical point laser and the ability to use the unit in its side. Itís not perfect but this does open up some potential to square up large foundations and the like.

Has anyone found a good squaring laser for outdoors?

I see stabila has a la180 squaring laser but Iím not convinced it has more capability than my cheaper Bosch split line laser which canít really kick it outside at any range

Yep.

It's great for sewer lines or drains as well.

Just set it for your 2% and go down the trench grading it out.

Re: Best Rotary Laser 2019

So I made a little splurge on the stabila LAR 350. I really wanted the Hilti pr 30 but it would cost $1000 more and not come with a stAnd and grade rod.

Iím going to start here but I feel like Iím buying old tech because of the red vs green laser.

Iím taking a breath and letting go of the red/green because Im really using this for as-built measuring for design work. I wonít be doing a ton of layout as thatís someone elseís responsibility.

Red or green I doubt Iíd be able to see the plumb dot when used in the vertical position.

The stabila LA180 May satisfy long range layout which I feel should be possible with laser tech instead of total station.

That rod was a huge surprise. It's fantastic. Also the reciever is another awesome surprise.
