Re: Why??!!??

Tons? Got an Example?

BTW, if you see $350, $3.50, tree fiddy, or anything similar, these are examples of posters asking for, but not getting, their pricing questions answered.

Re: Why??!!??

Pricing questions vary wildly by region, trade, and business model. If you want to know the "going rate," call up businesses in your area. They will vary as well.

If I told you $3000 was what I would charge for a deck, is that what you would charge as well?

No shortcuts here, but plenty of material available to search.

Search using the words pricing, profit, overhead, etc.

BTW, if you are a licensed contractor, or looking to be one, posting an introduction will get you more respect here.

We can't do your pricing homework for you, especially if you post one time and then disappear forever.

You can't ask "how much" ($) around here. Look at the terms of service. The running joke reply is "tree fiddy" before they close the thread.

Please take the time to read the final post that accompanies the closing of your pricing threads. While such threads are not officially forbidden by our published terms of service, it is our policy not to allow them.

Your cost of doing business is not the same as mine. Your profit goals probably are different as well. No one here can tell you how much you should be charging.

You are welcome to initiate/participate in discussions about how to figure out what your rates should be. But ultimately, that process is up to you, not a bunch of strangers on the internet.

No.

There are not tons of other people asking what to charge that don't get blocked.

Read the forum rules. Or don't.

But don't expect anyone here to guess what your skill level is, what tools you own, how proficient you are with those tools, what your overhead is, etc, etc, etc, etc....

Bottom line...don't be ridiculous.

Have fun at the other forums.

Look at just ONE metric of pricing... what you want to make in a year's time... let's say you're happy making $50K/year but the other guy wants to make $75-100K... do you see how that ONE metric alone will cause your pricing to vary greatly? There are LOTS of other metrics involved...

If you want to learn how to price a job, this site has TONS of threads discussing how to do just that and there are many guys still willing to discuss it with you... if you want others to do it FOR you, however, it's not only a really bad idea to use others pricing as your own, but more importantly, you'll never learn HOW to price...

In fact, whenever your thread gets closed, there's usually a link included pointing you to how to determine your costs/pricing... if you decide to leave anyway, it would be in your best interest to view it before you do...

Re: Why??!!??

Yesterday I was asked about pricing a closet. A fricking closet. The woman said she got estimates from $200 to $2,000. She wanted it done right but not get robbed.

I said the last closet I did cost $3,000. Took nearly a week with drywall work, trim, doors, shelving, framing etc.... A legitimate business is at least $50/man hour plus your supplies. Everyones overhead differs pending on the operation. If your freelance between other gigs $30/hour fill in may be gold to you. Thats half of what I would accept

Where does PITA charge go? Time or general overhead, or is it a multiplier?

Re: Why??!!??

What makes you think that we wouldn't lie to you about pricing? We could tell you way to low in which case you would lose your a$$ and eventually go out of business. Alternatively we could tell you way to high, in which case you wouldn't get any jobs and would eventually go out of business. Either way it's a win for us because we have less competition and we can raise our prices. :-)

If you really don't have a clue start on the low end. If you get 3 out of 3 jobs raise your prices and continue to raise your prices until you only get 1 or 2 out of three.
