Question

Anchoring Square Steel Bracing To 3' Steel Vertical Pole.

Hi Forum,

What ill be doing is anchoring steel bracing system for LED lighting to a 3' Diameter vertical steel hollow pole.

Steel square tubing is a 1.5"Hx1.5"Wx1/8"T that will extend from the vertical hollow pole out 6' with a slanted tube underneath to prevent bending/arcing with the shape of the entire brace being a y if you turn it counterclockwise 90 deg.

Ive had plates welded to the ends where the bracing will be secured from the brace to the pole.

Im considering using sleeve anchors. Is there a better anchor style I could use or would 1/2"+ sleeve anchors be suitable for this?

Sleeve anchors are typically used for attachment to masonry, your description sounds like you're connecting the steel square tube to the round tube? I would drill and tap, or drill and nut/bolt if you have access.

Go to a nut and bolt store and get some 3/8" or 1/2" self threading bolts. Then pick up the correct size drill bit that corresponds to whatever size bolt you got and pre-drill your hole then use an impact driver to set the bolt.

And get the Type 23, far superior than any of the others.

Why not just weld your hangar in place?

Use a pipe hanger or strap a pipe bracket, or strut clamp.

the hanger is horizontal to the vertical pipe, so strapping wont work unfortunately

Thread forming or thread cutting bolts?

Edited:
Now im considering drilling and taping the holes.

Guess ill know once I get up in the air and make a few test holes

Buy 6" steel pipe. Slice in half. Those are your mating brackets. To the vertical pole. Trace out the curve of the boxed end, grind to curve. Weld. I suggest you use use a horizontal joint on the top and vertical joint for the bottom. This will make final fitment way easier. Also drill and tap the pieces before mounting the arms. Will make life much easier. Then band clamp the adapters. The tapped bolts are to provide sheer strength. The clamp will provide tearout strength. The clamps you can get from a HD truck shop for a 6.5" exhaust, or make your own by threading and bending rod.

At least that's what I would do, but I do metal work as a hobby.

~ 3' diameter stainless steel "hose clamps" at the top and bottom of the "shingle" sign, double or triple as required for wind load, and ice?

Look at some local traffic light poles and all the "crap" attached to them...

See these "Hollo-bolts" at http://www.lindapter.com/american/Pr..._HB_Hollo-Bolt

1. Weld it on.
2. Structural blind fasteners such as Ajax One-Side, Lindapter hollo bolt, All Fasteners Next Gen
3. Buy a mount designed for monopoles. Lightweight ring mount or a chain mount would work well. https://www.sitepro1.com/store/cart....duct_list&c=52
4. The place linked to above sells heavy duty banding and tools. Ive seen it used to hang some big stuff off light poles. We just use this method to stap conduit and cables.
