We are doing some contracts for WalMart now....times have changed. Used to the DG store stuff didn't pay well. FD must pay better!

Yeah I haven't had any luck with DG either, so I quit bidding them a couple years ago.

I haven't worked on any Wal-Mart stores either, heard too many horror stories. How is it going with them? I have actually bid a few recently, was sort of on the fence about it though.

I have 3 sets of plans for stuff we do not normally do....one is a vet office, 14k sq/ft. Another is the huge Halliburton project in ElReno, 47k sq/ft. Unreal. Pass on the vet clinic, bid the Halliburton job at 300k, with draw schedules, they countered with 200k and no draws. Nope, nada, find someone else.

This job is in El Reno.

I'm not sure what exactly you are meaning by draw schedule. Like a schedule of payments by owner to you per a schedule that you created or negotiated based on milestones? Yeah that's definitely not something that is going to happen. Payments are only made based on percentage of work completed per your schedule of values and only once a month. No monies in advance or prior to work in place. So it could happen that you work for 60 days without ever receiving a dime. It is definitely a different game with the large corporations and you will have to be prepared if you take it on.

Sounds good, but I'm in Missouri, I have to be in Kansas City on Monday. But there is a high possibility I will make a trip out there next week. If I do, I will definitely take you up on lunch.

Wal-Marts put the fear of god in you prior to pouring. They made us do a big precon, last two hours about different ways they would make us tear out the slab. I think it was 50ksq in total with about 3 or 4 different pours. The first night of the pour, one of the big wigs from Wal-Mart popped in at 1am, mud at 2am. Thankfully he was ok with just about everything. He made a few slight form changes. 20 mins of fixing maybe.

They don't want any rider sitting for more than 10 mins without being ran. Vacuums for all soft cut saws. You have to remove every floor box as you finish and make sure its perfectly level. You can't trowel the edges to ensure a uniform color on the edges. Only machine passes. Only white chalk.
All form edges must be mitered. Saw cuts have to be perfect. In fact, after one pour one of the guys found where the skid plate was scratching the concrete. You couldn't see it unless you got 1 foot from the concrete. He told me that if he sees it again, we will rip out out. All of our F numbers were in the FF 70 and FF50 on average. Looked great but I felt like we didn't do a good job after talking with him. lol

Thank you! Yes, unless you can get a very good number going in, just be prepared! Tons and tons of paperwork plus getting paid is about 60-90 days. They are building a lot of stores in our area. They're called neighborhood Wal-Marts. More on the scale of CVS and Walgreens.

If you ever hear the name Win-co, I hear they are 100x worse than Wal-Marts. More of the Southwest and west coast thing.

My concrete sub is doing a WalMart Express close by, and we have the bid for steel. Not looking forward to them either.

Re: Looking To Be A Busy 3rd & 4th Quarter

Forgot to mention. We did a 40'ish (or so) wall at the dock ramp. After inspecting the wall along with the city. They came back in with a X-Ray device and mapped the entire wall to make sure the rebar wasn't taken out and was properly installed.

Supposedly, somewhere in the mid-west a concrete contractor removed the rebar after everyone looked at it to save money is the story I was told. The wall fell over. I can't remember if anyone was hurt but ever since then I was told they x-ray every wall now.

I assume you rent all your equipment because of the distance you travel?
