Helical Shoring And Underpinning

We were contracted to design, fabricate, and install helical pier underpinning as temporary shoring for an addition being added to a church. The addition will have a basement that will be very close to the existing footing that only went down approx. 36".

Our plan includes the installation of 8 Techno Metal Post helical piers, underpinning brackets, and some channel to reinforce the existing foundation wall.

Re: Helical Shoring And Underpinning

We installed 5 Techno Metal Post helical piers on the first wall, with channel attached to the foundation and the underpin brackets. This helped distribute a column load, and reinforce the foundation wall with unknown construction. We used sch. 80 posts because there is a chance they will be unbraced during construction.

Then this mess was discovered under the second wall and a little design tweaking was needed.

That's nasty looking. Just checked your location. Any body parts hiding in that stuff?

The start of the fubar wall. We will install the pinch beam with helical piers attached to each side which will allow the contract to clear out the debris and place concrete or grout under/around that mess.

Looks like a cool project. What size TMPs are those? And for temporary stuff, do you reuse the helicals or are they a throw away after being torqued in and then removed?

3" schedule 80 posts.

They are temporary as far as use, but they are staying in the ground. If everything goes as planned, the wall that is under ground is already back filled and will never be seen again.

The wall with the pinch beam will be disassembled once the concrete is poured and the posts will be cut and capped before the slab is poured.

If we attempt to install a post and for whatever reason have to remove it, in most cases it can be used again. If it is installed, used, and then removed for whatever reason down the line we will not sell that to another customer.
