What Is Better? Around The Windows

What is better? We're doing new install for windows and siding. Should I put jchannel to window or install 2x4 and cap it?

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Why not use vinyl lineals? Best of both worlds.

Windows without any casing is cheeeesssey. IMO

Re: What Is Better? Around The Windows

I think all windows should be trimmed and have sills - 5/4 x 4" PVC casings with 13 deg. sills. Don't cap it if you can help it...to loud in the rain and dents easily. PVC brickmould is another option. No picture framing - put a sill in

Re: What Is Better? Around The Windows

you can wrap it,but i wouldn't cap a 2x you can just use aluminum and still incorporate a sill

i always match the j color to the trim, especially important when installing shutters

i personally don't like incorporating a j channel in the aluminum wrap,i don't like the ''knife edge''detail, there are other ways to do it but if you want a built in j i would use a lineal or solid pvc

btw Crane has a sill lineal

Only time I have found a metal roof to be loud was when there is no sheeting under , no inside ceiling or insulation. then you can say it is loud. Other wise

I agree Tom...we call those "self j"s" up here...not a big fan personally...lots of $ in it tho...

I do cap with sills when the home calls for it...100+ yr old house w double hungs etc etc...

Reg cookie cutter homes...especially if I'm siding I like to make bottom, sides and top caps all the same width/face... Majority of hos seem to like...like I said unless a heritage home

Re: What Is Better? Around The Windows

I guess you boys in Bergen County haven't discovered PVC board yet.
Sometimes called perma-board.
All different brands.
We've had X-board, Versatek, CertainTeed Millwork, and of course Azek.
Way better than capping with aluminum.
Aluminum is out down here.
We do all of our trimboards in PVC board.
Actually heading towards doing all exterior trim that way, fascia, soffit, frieze boards.
Haven't we been through this before?
I know Riz recently posted some pics on this.

I got your Prius, except it's got leather - no slip covers or tunnel vision allowed. And who said anything about metal roofs?

You jabbing me? You don't even know me, or that my fav color is red... ahem

Re: What Is Better? Around The Windows

I like the PVC boards also. Azek works the best. Hollow lineals are junk, IMO. Rather have plain white J around windows than those lineals.

Wrapping a 2X is ok, but kinda "hack", JMO. Some just use cedar boards and caulking. That's even worse.

Contractors have been doing a ton of cheapo siding jobs here for the last 20 years. When we do a job, people notice.

your right pvc is basically idiot proof,4 cuts nail it on...done

if there's one thing the siding business needs are things that idiots can do

The inaccuracy of your innuendos is disheartening to hear and cynical at best. Were do you get off making false assumptions on a simple comment?... I wonder if you'd talk to me in person that way...

Here, have a band-aid on me...take one of your crylenol's and maybe you can skip a ride in the wahmbulance

This pic effort "is" just for you
