Have Fun Working On This 66 Block!

Some numb-nuts decided to use 2x4s to frame some cheesy shelving units in the mechanical room. Good luck using a punch-down tool!

Problem: Getting to the screws.

See, there's a 2x4 in the way.

True.... by the time they disassemble the shelving to access the sump pump, the 66 block would be accessible as well.

This cluster covered up everything! The phone, the cable, the sump, the alarm system, the intercom, the water meter, the gas shut-off......

The screws they used on those Simpson fence rail hangers don't meet shelf code. Needs to be shelf hanger nail or shelf structural screw.

Maybe you could use one of those Mexican wall cutting saws to get the 2x4 out of your way.

I'm always looking for new challenges for my oscillating tool.

turn the blade sideways, slip it in, and cut the crews.

Remove the box from the shelf to get to the other screw. Have chisel, oscillator or recip saw ready. Or reach it from below the shelf.

Or, ignore it since the new homeowner won't be using a land line.
