Theater....I Guess

I will post photos I take randomly through out the day....

Start of Job @ 10:22AM 11/29/10

After talking with the GC, staring at the blank wall and drawing ideas on the wall, removing base and carpet, I start building at 11:52AM

Took way too long to build this, 12:50

End of day mess, don't feel like sitting in traffic, its now 3:09

All cleaned up, inside view, 3:21

All cleaned up, outside view, 3:21
Cool thing I just realized, is my phone names the photos by the date and time....look at the files names....the last one is 1129101521

11/29/10 15:21 (3:21PM)

( I am allowed to leave it a bit messy....we know the client very well. She is an interior designer we do ALOT of work for...its where some of these more elaborate trimouts and built in jobs come from. )

TBF I wouldn't use there hot tub as tool storage area. They are paying you to build them something not supply you with a work bench. Some customers will freak out about little stuff like that.

Work looks good as allways!.

If it was else where and I didn't know the client...you would be correct...and those tools would be on the ground...but its not a problem as long as I don't do damage.

Edit: and they know us...esp me, very well. I only have done damage once.....dropped the mirco pinner 13 feet to a slate foor... Was one of her clients too.... Now if there is a height issue, or a sensative floor...its gets Masonite....

Getting started at 10:22? Ugh....that would ruin my day right there. Looks like it's going to be nice when done.

Well.....ya see....I started my day at 6:30 when I woke up....the packed truck and was on the road at 7:30. Stopped at DD...then got a text saying the GC was running late....so I went to the job...parked. Had coffee, ate my bagel....read the back of an Oshlun blade package...dusted off the dash board....look outside at the frost and decided to stay in my truck longer, played with the sirus and....reclined the seat and assed out...

They are replacing the carpet. If you look close, you can notice i how I cut the carpet out about two foot from the wall i am working on. You can also see that section "rolled" up in the last photo near the saw horse legs.

Re: Theater....I Guess

Are you a magician or something?

Couple piles of wood... few tools... few pocket screws here and there... poof!

No plans, no drawings or are you holding out on us? Are you just building this on site making it up as you go along? Looking good.

If your vacuum hose splits or comes loose, the HO will have you lynched.

I should have taken a picture of the wall. The first day i spent about an hour with the GC.... he talked the idea he saw in his head...did a ROUGH sketch of the look of the "column" on the right. After he left, I went over the the left side and fine tuned the plan myself. Design Build....sometimes its fun...other times its frustrating trying to see something in you head to build something that is in another person's head....that usally was an idea in third person's head.

If I am lucky I get a "drawing"...usally not.

This is kinda how I have become close with this perticular GC. I worked for him years ago and he is the one who started to teach me how to really be a carpenter. How to think outside the box.....because he taught me, he knows I will usally build someting very similar to how he would have built it himself. So yeah, I get a pile wood, some mouldings and tools and he says "GO". The interior designer is the same way. She had NO idea what was being built....she came home and was estastic....always is. She likes the style of our work so again...the GC will get jobs from her and basically says "Do what you think is best"....he in turns gets a basic idea down and I fill in the blanks and build it.

I am lucky to have worked for him and to get so much work from him.

Looks fantastic, outstanding work. One question though. If I look at the first and latest set of pictures, how did you provision your panels for the speaker and outlets that are below the projector?
