New Cedar Gate

I have a bunch of cedar scraps I need to do something with. This gate for my trash cans is a start.

I used dominoes everywhere and the west system epoxy.

Still haven't decided on the finish. Might just use an oil with no pigment. Dunno yet, but leaning that way.

Looks sweet, it's to bad it couldn't look like that forever without a finish.

Re: New Cedar Gate

Just slap some Behr paint on it.

West systems and Domino's works like a champ on gates.

Re: New Cedar Gate

Its official. I am the world's worst painter.

I went over to Ben Moore and got some latex translucent natural stain. Brushed it on. Thought it would just soak in like oil. Wrong. Shows all kinds of brush swirls and stuff.

What an embarrassment. I'll have to try to fix it with a second coat tomorrow. At least its mine

Let Google be your friend.
Its a two part epoxy for fiberglass work.
I have a thread about making some curved cedar walls that the cedar and the epoxy is left from. Check that out and see us using the stuff.

Simply stated, they are the most experienced packagers of epoxy systems for marine, aviation and furniture/cabinetry ANYWHERE.

The famous Gougeon Brothers are behind what all you johnny-come-lately's know as The West System. They springboarded their business off of raw materials made available right here in Saginaw MI by DOW.

http://www.gougeon.com/

It doesn't matter if you are laminating a hull for an openwater catamaran, or topping a fine-figured spalted maple coffee table, West Systems has the science and experience to make it look good and last.

I've been patching (erm, "restoring" old ladies) in my home town with their stuff for nigh 30 some years).

If fact, I can remember when it was just "Gougeon Bros...

Re: New Cedar Gate

A light sanding and a recoat using a foam roller and back brushed with foam brushes, it will have to do.

One of my biggest life challenges is to give myself some room to be less than perfect. Its so easy to gather evidence to the contrary.
