Now that spring is finally here this morning I had a chance to get this 6 ft sq birdhouse put up . It is mounted on a 16" diameter post 9 ft in the air . It took about 45 minutes to install .

I'd be out there with a pellet gun for the first crow who decided he didn't "need" to use the birdy bathroom.

That is some sweet work!

Here are a couple more houses I just finished . The base is 32" square , total height is 35" tall . Each house has 12 rooms .

I also have a couple of articles coming out in June .This first one is from Canada .It is in Gardens Central , Gardens East and Gardens West .

The second article is in the June, July issue of British Woodworking magazine .

Those things are awesome.

Either you're incredibly creative or got really bored one day. Very respectable that you got up and did something about your idea rather than continue thinking about it on the couch.

Very cool stuff!

Question: Do you make these for different type birds (i.e. hole size, nesting area etc?)

Awesome work!

Re: Extreme Birdhouses , New House

Thanks guys ! I build them most for sparrows and wrens .The reason being they will live in them all year round so I don,t have to clean them very often .I also design them for Purple Martins if someone ask.
The biggest problem with making the entrance bigger is the starlings like to pull the baby birds out if they can .
Most of the houses I do have a 1 3/8" hole which is much safer .

What about making one for a bald eagle family next to my church? Do you think they'd live in it first and second would it be even remotely legal?

Re: Extreme Birdhouses , New House

They would probably make a nest on top of one if it was high enough in the air . I don,t think they would nest inside one even if it was big enough .

I've got a perfect spot in my parents back yard, its about as identical as the tree theyre living in now as you could get, but I would fear the owls and ospreys would take to it first. I pick my son up from there every Wednesday and happened to see one of them fishing out of a particular tree and your super birdhouses came into my head, it would just have to be slightly smaller than my house for them to fit in it.
