Upswing Cabinet Doors

I'm doing a door upgrade for a small kitchen, framed 1.5" overlay, and now the agent talked them into doing upswing doors for the cabs over the island, similar to frameless doors. "Wouldn't that be neat?"

I'm thinking of taking the 3015W's and 3615W's and putting a single (horizontal) door on them. Got a pneumatic hardware recommendation ? I imagine that I'll be tucking a cleat behind the frames or something like that, right? Or is this all just a hokey wish?

Thanks.

(if I'm in the wrong forum, feel free to move it. Thx)

these cabinet drs need to be pushed up to open . Sitting here trying to picture this .I see flaws , You now have to go to the trouble of pushing them all the way up ,as in pull out ,move back raise arms above your head . I must be missing something .

You got it. That's how they work.

What's happening is agent sold a house 6 months ago with mod euro frameless cabs, including horizontal uppers like this. I did some of the pre-sale work. In that kitchen, they needed a step stool for them, so impractical, imho. But now she wants them anyway, and turned the owner onto the idea.

Basically, what pneumatic hardware accomplishes it (simply)?

Honestly, the more I think about this, the bigger the headache it seems. I'll bet they're going for the full overlay look, but that's not what the other doors are going to be. I'll be addressing all this in short order, and hope to steer them back to something more reasonable.

Cabs that get used everyday should not have upswing, as far as I'm concerned. Who wants to use a step stool to close them?

Re: Upswing Cabinet Doors

I used some "stays" years ago on a kitchen I did. 10' ceilings.
This pic doesn't show the stays. They were hell-bent on the doors opening upward.

They just use them for things like turkey platters and such.

Re: Upswing Cabinet Doors

I didn't notice them at this years IBS Show, but in the past few years, the European style of cabinet doors that lift were pretty neat looking....but I would not install them in a spec home just because I like them.....

Yep, Blum.

Pricey as all get out. Figure about $250 a door.

Re: Upswing Cabinet Doors

On one of my kitchens I used the AVENTOS HK-XS. I think it was about $60, you can use two of them if the door is heavy. I only used one for a door above a full size Thermador refrigerator. The door was only 6 3/4" tall and I had a hard time making it work because it was so short. But I got R done.
