my thoughts were building is just like an outdoor deck and rails. Building solid corner posts and finish it up.

One I did was to install threaded rod in the wall and sandwiched between my end 2 x bolted trough blocking at the ceiling joists. I used 1/2" birch ply for the inside from top of the wall continuing down to the bottom of the ceiling joist . The top of the half wall also serves as a counter ( 12" "formica" ) .
