Notching Floor Joists

I am framing an addition to match the existing 2nd floor of a home. I have a 12-2 wire running across 3 joists in the center third, where code says I can't notch the joists. However, code also only calls for a 2x8 joist and we are using 2x10s. Should I sister the 3 joists with 2x8s the entire span or just notch the inch since I would still be left with 8 1/4" joist in that spot?
