Are You Ready? Greece Just Declared A Banking Holiday

6 days of closed banks. ATM withdrawals limited to 60 Euro's a day.

This is a possible contagion. Will it spread here? China is also having market problems, they've lost 20% recently, declaring a bear market.

Are you ready?

Didn't this happen (bank holiday) a few years back, and was it in Greece then, or was it Cyprus or somewhere else?

I predict the Dow losing 600 pts tomorrow. It will be an excellent time to buy. It will go back up.

It should go back up. But it is a black swan event.

Re: Are You Ready? Greece Just Declared A Banking Holiday

Not really surprising. Greece has been teetering for years or decades despite the ancient history and Aristotle Onassis and other water shipping. They have a strong political/economic presence because of location and technology.

When with a concrete supplier, we bought pumice from Greece by the ship and the company sold it to concrete and concrete products producers along the Eastern coast. It came from a Mediterranean island off Greece. It was better for many companies and much cheaper to ship by truck in the U.S. (if trucks with a large volume trailers were available). It was not meant for regular concrete, but it was more competitive than local manufactured lightweight aggregate and could be used with local fine (sand, pea rock) to make concrete products.

It is a small world.

Yeah, we're having fun now. . .
"Infrequently, a bank holiday can also refer to a day where there is an emergency bank closure to avert a bank run. This type of bank holiday occurred as a result of the Emergency Banking Act of 1933 during the Great Depression in the United States."
