World Chess Championship

Anybody else following? All 12 games drawn(!), and today Caruana got very lucky to be offered the draw. I thought he was toast with the Queen-side onslaught while in serious time trouble.

Wednesday should be interesting.

Re: World Chess Championship

I really wish I had something to add to this.

The only thing of value I can say is that a friend of my cousin is really really good at chess. I don't know what league he was in or rank he held, but he went to tournaments and won them.
The ease with which he can beat a mortal man at chess is breathtaking. He can tell you have quickly he's going to beat you with every move you make and not be lying. It's crazy.

Ask him two things: 1) what did he think of today's game, and the draw offer? 2) does he follow agadmator on youtube (if not, do so, quite enjoyable)

I watch agadmator and matojelic. I think Carlsen is going to lose one. There's more pressure on Carlsen with every tie.

The Wednesday finale is 4 rapid games, then maybe blitz if still a tie. Good enough?

So I guess this isn't like the old days, right? This must be timed because of the time it took Fisher and the Russian...wasn't that like days? For one match?

I would think watching a chess match is like watching paint dry, but whatever floats your boat. I don't watch golf either.

I couldn't agree more and I like playing chess.

I remember back in the day when chess masters could beat the computers. Now you can buy chess programs that are unbeatable. When they first came out they were beatable right up to the highest setting, then the best you could do is draw.

Now they have computers play each other. Stock fish is pretty fearsome. Googles AI wipes the floor with it. The new Google program wasnt fed historical games; it doesn't reference a database of moves.

. It was given the rules of the game and it played itself and LEARNED how to play.

That right there shows AI could be a real problem some time in the future. It can out think us and imo will at some point, no matter the programing they will want to do away with us. I believe we are already on that path.

Elon musk two days ago was talking about how you dont need new tech to have swarm killer robots. You just need a drone, a grenade and a face id chip. The Russians destroyed 2 BILLION dollars of Ukrainian munitions two years ago with a drone and a thermite grenade.

The next war will be known as the First Robot war.

Clever thinking on the Ruskie's part.

Yup, Star Wars and Terminator all rolled into one. Clones, drones, cyborgs, robot armies and a few token humans.
