Re: When Someone YELLS AT YOU

When I worked at the airline I had many people yell at me.

Takes a while to learn how to not take it personally and loose your cool. After a while it doesn’t even bother you but there is always that one person that just gets under your skin and get you when you are already having a bad day

Just got to remember - it doesn't matter in another year. Probably doesn't matter next week. More important to remember what is important in life.

Re: When Someone YELLS AT YOU

Besides my whif....I Really can't remember the last time someone actually yelled at me.
I do have one G/C That likes to throw tantrums . But I just remind him that he's not the only G/C in the state that builds houses . and I'm not the only Drywaller in the state either . that usually gets him up off the floor... its sad to see a grown ass man act like a 6 year old .

I cannot remember the last time someone yelled at me. Probably a coach back in high school 40 years ago.

Generally I just turn around and walk away. Why would I let you yell at me?

And some of you think I am an ass. Ha ha ha......

I have had a few subs try and get loud, and the results just were not good, from their perspective. I will write a story for the Hard Hat if some of you want to hear about the last temper explosion on one of my jobs.

BTW Madrina....I am shocked....I can't believe you would let anyone yell at you anyway....except the moderators here..

I got the feeling that was the first time... By the way everyone puckered their butts for the rest of the day..

Clouds... I guess it depends on how you want them

It's not that kind of job. I WISH it was. I'm not the GC either. We are basically just 2 contractors getting in a fight

. I didn't even mention that to anyone.. nothing would be done about it anyway.

I must admit that I didn't read that whole post. So maybe I'm out to lunch here, but it seems that you keep having these jobs that go completely sideways, with no one really in charge, lots of drama, and, quite frankly, lots of unprofessionalism.

I've mentioned this before, but if you want to be a GC, you have to get control of your jobs. That's clients, employees, subs, suppliers, everyone.
. It's not my job.. it's just a job I was hired to do.. there's no GC and no real plans set in stone, no change orders no hours no system. This chick has no idea whether to paint the wall or buy the sheetrock first. I knew this before this place ever came into existence.

she was all over the place with ideas and building walls and doing this and doing that and I said I'll do the floor that's it. And I did the floor and I posted pictures I think.. and then she asked me if I could do the clouds.... It's something I go do in my spare time, I give it about 2-4 hours a day... That's about all I can stand. I just have to keep in mind that I'm doing one project and i don't need to worry about the rest. but it's difficult because she doesn't know how to manage the job and she just lets all the contractors just make the biggest damn messes and walk off and not clean them up and it's kind of frustrating having to walk over everybody s***.

Agree, and there's times I just don't care enough to get mad.. but I'm talking about those times you feel yourself getting ready to lose it.

I want to hear them!

And it's really not ALL my jobs.. I just don't bitch about the ones that go well.
PEOPLE JUST NEED TO QUIT PISSING ME OFF

there's really only a few things that really set me off and contractors that have no work etiquite or respect for other contractors work is one of them.

Homeowners trying to GC a job is another.

Commercial business owners who have never held a hammer trying to GC a big ass job is another. But I knew this going in, that's why I just chose the jobs I wanted and could do without investing too much time or energy.
The chick is cool. The job is just way out of her league and totally run amuck

Re: When Someone YELLS AT YOU

There are few things worse for most guys than a woman verbally emasculating them on a jobsite. You don't have to yell, and you don't have to actually lose it, but it has to be loud enough.

Just don't get a rep for being a troublemaker or drama queen. It's best if others are already thinking what you're saying, and you focus on solving the problems, with appropriate commentary on their skills, work ethic, whatever...

Think of it as Mom chewing out a kid.

Re: When Someone YELLS AT YOU

LOL i took that cry babys job and picked up a few others today on that site. i asked the chick if she would be interested in giving up the reins on the construction end. week after week nothing gets done over there, thers some progress here and there but the place is a total disaster for starters, I mean its crazy. saw dust, chunks of wood, empty boxes, half built projects, half built walls, theres cotton everywhere glitter, lights, tools cant find anything anywhere, more than half everyones day is spent looking for something. tarps all taped together and untaped, its ridiculous. the kitchen is filled with dishes and empty containers, theres so much stuff everywhere i cant even think when im there. i cant walk with out tripping on at least 5 things just to get out the door.

and i told her. direct but not angry or complaining.. i just said there has to be a process and order or nothing is ever going to be done, she needs to make contractors respect other contractors work and pick up after themselves. cuz the way she was running chit was absurd. she even has people working on other peoples projects when they arent there, like random day labor people off craigslist. she thinks its helping but i spent 2 hours today undoing what some asshat did to my clouds last night.

anyway i got there today and the place was damn near emptied out! i was so stoked i jumped right in and finished cleaning the place up after the people who were cleaning it left. i cleaned for 4 hours and that place looks like a million bucks now.

except there's one more problem i have to get rid of. one of her designated helpers. her job is to do nothing but assist any contractor who needs something, and she INSIST on talking nonstop all day long and it drives me crazy. thats why i cleaned for 4 hours today... she started talking to me the second i walked in the door and i had to gtfaway from her.

she was trying to talk someone into going with her to buy a box of whipits. She said im going to get a box of a hundred. do you want any? i looked at her like she was f'in retarded. i said um no. I paid way too much for my college education to piss it off a semester at a time on a 3 second high. But knock yourself out.

she spent the next 10 min trying to tell me that holding your breath is actually killing more brain cells than inhaling nitrous gas. I said, if you hold your breath long enough to deprive your brain of oxy....nevermind... YOU ALMOST HAD ME GIRL... I ALMOST ENGAGED YOU IN THIS CONVERSATION,,, I ALMOST GOT CAUGHT ARGUING WITH YOUR STUPID ASS ABOUT WHAT KILLS MORE BRAIN CELLS... BUT NOT TODAY... AND NOT TOMORROW EITHER.. how bout this. OK YOURE RIGHT. AND no i dont want any whipits.
