Yeah it is a bit, and I know nothing about frost depths :-) I'm sending a nice kit out there. I have it crated up and am holding it now, hoping to ship it out by the first part of April if it can be installed by then.

I'm north of there, and frost is usually out by May 1 here. It should be sooner there, but I don't know how much.

Iím a stones throw away on MV. It was thawed yesterday and a muddy mess. This morning, frozen solid. Supposed to be colder the next couple of days too.

Re: When Ground Thaws In Cape Cod?

If it helps, just the surface is frozen. Are you looking to hand dig footings or with machine? What size footings?

Re: When Ground Thaws In Cape Cod?

I'm not sure how they'll have them dug, what is the frost depth there? Holes will be say 9" across x however deep they need to be.

my customer is asking to have it shipped end of the Month so that'll probably be fine it sounds like.

Re: When Ground Thaws In Cape Cod?

Youíll be totally fine. We are in gardening zone 7a; the water here keeps our climate temperate. Iíve lived on MV for 20 yrs and have never seen the ground freeze more than 4 or 5 inches, is very rare, and not seen outside of Jan/Feb.

I believe the whole state is 4'. The ground will be frozen now (unless they had snow cover) but should be thawed next week. It will all depend on the weather.

When you guys say frozen ground do you mean the ground is literally frozen? Like, digging through ice or more like the water in the ground freezes so it more like a dirt slushy? I've seen snow and stuff but never had to think about digging in it.

You can have a full size skid steer auger drilling and it not drill an inch.

Re: When Ground Thaws In Cape Cod?

It's a little more frustrating than cement because it doesn't really chip very well either. That said, I wouldn't worry about it for 8 holes. I've dug plenty of holes in January around here as the frost rarely gets more than a foot or two deep and this has been a very warm winter.

Eh, not quite, I routinely drill through 8-10 inches.

The most I've gone through was 16.
That was in clay with some gravel mixed in, that was a bear. It didn't take much of a stone to stop the auger.

Maybe the deeper it gets the harder it gets. We get a average of 7ft of frost here.

Guess I'll be quiet then, I have no idea what that would be like.

How long does it take to fully come out of the ground in the spring?....Or doesn't it?

Itís normally out around end of April beginning of May. The weather is breaking next week here and they say this was the last of the deep cold for us.

Re: When Ground Thaws In Cape Cod?

Ice does get harder the colder it gets, so does frozen ground, but soil details count.
