This is exactly right.

I'm going with 35 to 40 years old. Physically you can still run with the young dogs and beat them most of the time. Mentally you can easily out pace the young dogs.

Then at 40, everything seems the same. Slowly you realize why they call it "over the hill." When 50 hits, you realize you have slowed down and you realize you want to slow down a little more.

If anyone doubts my assessment, go to a local 5K race. The 35 to 40 year age group will be the fastest times. Maybe that is the time when guys start to realize they are going down, and make a rally.

Researchers warn the findings are preliminary: the study only included nine participants and did not include a control group. But if further research confirms the findings, the impact on health care and society's relationship with aging as a whole could be massive.

The epigenetic clock is measured by a record of chemical changes to an organism's DNA. The trial's main purpose was to test whether growth hormone could be used to restore tissue in the thymus gland, which is crucial for immune function. The gland starts to shrink after puberty and becomes clogged by fat. Previous studies had shown growth hormone stimulates regeneration in the thymus, but it can also cause diabetes, which is why the diabetes medications were included in the most recent study.

Scientists only even checked the epigenetic clocks in the participants as an afterthought. Horvath looked at four different measures of the epigenetic clocks of each of the participants. He found all of them had reversed significantly.
Its obviously a juiced story but........in the last few years I recall hearing that they think they can slow aging at around the 60 mark

I am more and more convinced that what you consume has a lot to do with aging. My Dad has been looking into this big time and has said the micro-biomes in our stomach are all types of screwed up but they can regrow.

Anyhow, bunch of interesting guys out there doing studies on this stuff. Exciting times, that's for sure.

Re: Whats The Ideal Age Physically?

The question is misleading because our physical advantage are different at different ages because they're coupled with experience... it would probably work better asked... "What Are Ideal Ages Physically?"

Where do we think the phrase "youth is wasted on the young" came from?!...

Still feeling good at 47.

My Dad is 72 and still works doing handyman and small remodeling projects 3 or so days a week in his retirement town down South, although he stays off high ladders now.

I've been going down hill for as long as all you geezers but that's just because I peaked at 8.

Re: Whats The Ideal Age Physically?

In the medieval days, the Knights didn't peak till their mid 40's, and into their 50's.

These were guys who rode draft horses into battle, wore dozens of pounds of armor, and could split a man wearing a helmet from crown to crotch with a broad axe.

I don't think being in your 20's has always been universally admired.

Besides, time is gonna kill you. Period.

Doesn't matter what "scientists" say. That fate was sealed in the Garden 6,000 years ago.

The only "magic" to defeat that is the Blood of Christ, and the Resurrection.

Re: Whats The Ideal Age Physically?

I feel better at 36 than 30. Back doesnt hurt anymore (relatively, some injuries flair up) and if it weren't for my neck and my shoulder I'd feel awesome

I wish I'd started eating cleaner and lifting/metcon etc... sooner I wouldn't be working this hard to shed body fat I wouldn't of acquired lol

I also sleep more. Usually in bed at 830-9, sometimes as late as 1030. That gives me 7/7.5 - 6 hrs usually.

No vitamins, I dont drink coffee until after 6 am usually. Blast of cold water at the end of a shower will wake your ass up plenty good. Lol

I get blood work once a year, check hormones, kidney, stomach, liver function etc... Lucky little girl blood pressure and heart rate runs in the family. Pops is still 120/70 or something
