What's "Come And Take It" Mean?

Is that a Texas thing?

I saw on another forum where a guy from Tejas also had "Come and take it" for his sig line.

Not quite the same.

"Don't mess with Texas" stands on it's own, all the time.

If things escalate from "don't mess with Texas" to "come and take it", you better think very seriously about just how bad you want whatever it is...

I've traveled through Texas. I found out quick that you just keep your head down and don't rock the boat.

Of course, my neighborhood is the same. Just not nearly the size of Texas

That was a bit of a trick question. Didn't it originate as an anti-littering slogan during the Ann Richards days?

Perhaps. That's what it's mostly associated with. Still good to live by in other regards.

No doubt it took on a life of it's own. Great saying.

Huh. I've spent some time in Amarillo.

Their slogan should be 'You can have it'

I drove through Amarillo once. What an awful lonely night that was. I thought Texas was never going to end, and I only had to cross the "tiny" part. Started the day in Phoenix. I was never so happy to see Oklahoma. Made it to Nashville before I slept.

I am the Road Warrior. Shout outs to coffee and beef jerky.

"Come and take it"

It's what they say when the yard sale is done and they want to get rid of the leftovers......

Re: What's "Come And Take It" Mean?

I was sitting in a beer bar in a little town in Texas. Had to be around 1992. Beer was a buck for a glass of Draft beer. A black man came in. He looked to be a linesman for the utility company. He ordered a Draft beer. The bartender leaned over nearly in his face and said "that'll be 5 dollars." He turned around and walked out. I was a little drunk and in my 20's and asked "what's that all about?" Another customer said without missing a beat he's a ni**er! I was known to spend some time in other bars as well. I saw that happen in two different bars in that same town. That is true racism right there. Not sure if it was Texas, or the town, or a Southern thing, but it was pretty ugly to say the least.

Were you so drunk you couldn't remember the name of the town?

Nope it is actually still there.

It's just outside of Fort Worth. Here's the building.
