Are We Doing NFL

Takes this year? Seems like the kneeling has taken a backseat now and football is back to normal.

Was just reading up on the Bucs game from a Philly POV... Pretty sour grapes from the Philly media, couldn't have been that the Bucs just dominated the entire game? Apparently the Bucs look sick this year... Maybe just maybe....

Hashtag - Philly sucks.

Many of us have stopped watching the NFL for several reasons, big one being the kneeling for the National anthem. Add to that ****ty management, and just generally politicizing a sport and people have been tuning out in droves.

I personally have taken my sports fervor to Hockey and Baseball. I can't talk a lot of chit in baseball because, well, because it's baseball. It's a non-**** talking game, very respectable.

Hockey I love but don't know enough about to be a chit talker, I'm trying to learn.

I have spent my entire life loving to be entertained by football. I still listen and read about it, but haven't watched it. I was pissed with Goodell and his garbage before the kneeling happened. Then that started, it became politicized, I just stopped. I wasn't going to watch a game I love become ****ty because of stupid rules, a stupider commissioner, about a bunch of stupid athletes make a stupid statement, about a wonderful country.

It got to be too much. But at least it's being dialed back. The statement was made to leave politics out of sports and was heard. So I thought, maybe it's time to get back to watching. In the spirit of forgiveness...

Screw you Philly

Re: Are We Doing NFL

The way I see it, the original protest was an opportunity to make a change if that's what it was really all about... but when people voiced their opposition to the way it was handled based on deeply held beliefs and they kept going anyway, they not only lost the moral ground but alienated people who could have been ally's...

Recruiting people to your cause is an actual cause, forcing people to do what you want or you will continue to do what is upsetting people, doesn't win you anything but counterproductive turmoil...

So we're left with... players protesting the anthem/flag with their message lost in the turmoil, people being offended by it, majority of owners with no balls to take a stand one way or the other because of the bucks involved, and fans left in limbo...

Certainly not why most people watch football and why people are choosing to not do the NFL...

Re: Are We Doing NFL

No.

I have no respect for the NFLs management/leadership. They have rules and standards and their hands aren't meeting them. Yet they allow it.

So I won't support their organization anymore than a restaurant with poor service and indifferent management.

Side note- thought it was pretty awesome one of the banks I use, I went in to get a cashiers check and their lead loan officer was coloring his nike symbol on his shirt with a matching sharpie until their new bank shirts arrived...

Actually the question was, are we doing the NFL due to the kneeling. Pay attention.

Message was loud and clear over a looooong duration. Goodell is a turd. Everyone knows it.

I will say you may have a bit of a different tune if you had a boy who wants to talk NFL with you. I sat him down and explained to him last year why I didn't watch. We went to the Ray's game today instead of the Bucs home opener.

He said, "Dad, I'd really like to see a professional football game now..." While at the Ray's game.... Protest can take a backseat when it comes to me bonding with my boy.

Re: Are We Doing NFL

It's our jobs as husband's and father's to set the example. For everything. I have a pretty stoic view with morality and standards. I understand their right, and I understand mine.

I would tell my kid we will go to a college game as long as there are Buccaneers taking a knee. And explain why.

I hope my kids view some of my hard stances as both stoic and honorable in their adulthood, and hope they choose men who have the same beliefs, and have them themselves and pass those on to their children. I am by no means perfect or any kind of example, but I do believe I have integrity, and I hope they realize that later

That being said I understand people not taking a stance on this. Some of my own family does not take the same view, they take the view that they are there to watch football, not listen to some athletes uneducated View on any sort of reality. I don't think they have enough respect for those men's personal opinions to care. Make sense to an extent

Re: Are We Doing NFL

For the record I did mean for this to be this year's NFL thread, to get it out of our systems early and then do like we did in years past... Talk **** about each other's teams. I mean C'mon it's been pretty easy to protest the NFL if you're a Cleveland fan, Pat's fan? Probably not so much.

So, since the politicization is going by the wayside, thought maybe we could get some random **** talking from a local Jersey boy about how great the Pack is but how bad the Jets are. Jets fans have to be protesting still too right? I mean no one actually likes the Jets?

Just curious.

Let the **** talking begin.

Part of the game. It's the couple dozen mistakes during the game prior to that that loses the game. Not the blown call for the most part.

Not positive but I'm pretty sure a Buc hasn't taken a knee since week 2 of last season. I didn't watch a single game because of it.
