The headlines seldom really match the content of this video. It was a leading question, and his answer was was from strongly in agreement.

Kelly: "We don't have to worry about this, right?"
Fauci: "Well, obviously we need to take it seriously, and do the kinds of things that the CDC and the DHS are doing... Not something the citizens of the U.S. right now should be worried about."

Plus, it's old news. Things have changed a lot, more data is available.

Yes, things changed, hence the challenge with predictive models and why they continue to get it wrong...

Here's the thing... Went out today, had my hand sanitizer in my pocket... went to the store to get some chicken for dinner... store (large regional store) was again out of wipes for the carts and you can't get any of your own (huge missed opportunity for the companies manufacturing hand sanitizers/wipes) so the employees are spraying/cleaning carts but you have no idea if the one you took is one of those, or contaminated by the coronavirus....

So the cashiers handles everything scanning it behind their plexiglass, the bagger does as well (who doesn't have a plexiglass protector), and I take my cart and head out to the car... before I touch my car, I sanitize my hands with my handy travel one, I open the car and put the groceries in the car (that they touched) and then close my door... bring the cart back... hand sanitize again before touching the car...

Sounds kosher and following protocol right ? Well guess what people are handling MULTIPLE times a day that potentially has the coronavirus on the surface and passing it back and forth? The freaking hand-sanitizer bottle!... Now, this puts aside the other ways it can be transmitted... so if you're not cleaning the hand sanitizer bottle (because most people don't walk around with an automated hands-free version), the very reason you use it is contaminating it's surface...

They also conveniently edited this part out of that video clip:

No, as you can see how I laid it out, you touch the bottle TO use it... so unless you're cleaning the bottles surface, uhm...

This is why I haven't watched news on TV for 20 years. When I see something online, I can watch the whole original clip, I can look at the sources and see what they really say and what their methods really were, I can do my own math on the numbers, etc.

So do you mean that "we don't have to worry" negates "being prepared"?

Seems to me, in the other thread, that you never answered the question, Trump said at that point in time in the rally the same thing Fauci said the day before the rally... "we've got take it seriously and be totally prepared"...

It was kind of a long post, but as I understand it, the process is this:
  1. You touch the potentially contaminated bottle to get sanitizer on your hands, which is OK. See step 2.
  2. You sanitize your hands

3. So you're able to put sanitizer in your hand put the bottle away at the same time?...

Only way to avoid touching the contaminated surface again AFTER you've sanitized...

I'm honestly completely confused. Squirt a dollop on left hand. Put bottle down. Rub sanitizer all over both hands.

Remember, this was after being at a store, using the travel one to avoid contaminating the car surface... so, you take out the bottle with your potentially contaminated hands, squirt the dollop on your hands, and then have to touch it again to put it away potentially re-contaminating...

Ahh the travel one. Still, might I suggest you put it away with one hand whilst the other hand has a dollop waiting for both hands.

Edit, apologies- I generally strive to not be part of thread derailing.

Yeah, it kinda' got onto to that aspect, but the point was really going towards reasons why this predictive modeling is not all it's cracked up to be... There are SO many factors and societal influences that affect it (the hand sanitizer and grocery store were just an illustration of one) it's extremely hard to quantify...

What's going to matter is the end number... and then we're going to have to ask ourselves whether or not we do the same next time...
