Re: Vacation, Where Would You Go????

Belize....Ambergris Caye

AirBNB a house right on the beach......
2nd largest reef in the world within sight, The Great Blue Hole, incredible snorkeling/scuba.
Great fishing. All 3 species of honorable gamefish.
Mayan ruins back on the mainland.

Some friends just got back from St. Barts.
They did the "private villa and lots of massages"-style luxury trip.
They said it was their favorite vacation ever.

Re: Vacation, Where Would You Go????

I went back to Bolivia for my last vacation. Went alone, stayed in a hole in the wall and lived the third-world lifestyle. I'm not very good at vacationing.

Next time I'll bring the misses and we'll go somewhere peaceful. Or maybe we'll go on a bluegrass tour of Tennessee. Can't decide between beaches and banjos...

Re: Vacation, Where Would You Go????

10 days....not very long.

Except for the last few years, I've been going to NW Maine, camping.
I'll stick with that.

If time and money were no issue, I'd be in a motor home going throughout the United States via the secondary roads.

I would be there....if I could!

If I could take 10 days and have no worries about being gone, like what will be screwed up when I get back, I would pick St. Kitts to hang on....it would be awesome to lay on the beach, soak up the sun, sleep without care, and unwind from the stress that is killing us......

I cannot think of a down side to St Kitts.....and it is off the beaten trail.

I just saw an article about people who vacation on South Pacific islands that were battlegrounds in WWII....now, that would be interesting for sure.

I do that every year! I send all of them to visit the MIL for a month. I usually go myself at the end for 10 days.

(I should point out as an important side note the MIL lives in Hawaii)

Re: Vacation, Where Would You Go????

Wife and I just booked a 10 day banger to Italy for a couple weeks from now.

Plane tickets were $600/ea RT, which is the lowest I've ever seen. Euro is also equal to the dollar right now which is great.

Italy is one of those countries where you can have whatever you want. Mountains, beaches, lakes, cities, history, country, food, fishing, whatever.

If you head to the North, you can do day trips into France, Switzerland, Austria, or Croatia.

Never been there, but I had a guy tell me Gulfport, MS was a little know treasure. White sands and salt water. But that was before Katrina 2005. Surely they're rebuilt by now.

Re: Vacation, Where Would You Go????

I've visited most of Central America. My wife is Panamanian by birth, so I feel most comfortable there, meaning we can do the resort thing and lay on the beach for whatever time we want and we can also hang out with her family still there and not do the touristy things.

A friend of the family works for the Panama Canal Commission at the Miraflores Locks, my son and I got to stand on top of the locks as a ship was coming in, that was a cool experience...and I don't think too many tourists get past the visitors viewing area.

My wife was born in Bocas Del Toro, an island on the north coast. Grandpa has been there since the early 50's. It's a back packers paradise, the lonely planet type. Fresh seafood...we catch and eat it, scuba diving, snorkeling, just hanging on the beach...and being family we don't get soaked the tourist prices, everyone knows Grandpa.

Fishing in Lake Gatun last year when Pickle and I went we caught 52 fish in about 3 hours!!! And you can float by the Gamboa prison and wave to Noriega.

Theres a place in northern Italy called 5 points, don't miss it. You are the adventurous type, you would love a day trip to Interlaken, Switzerland. It's in the Jungfrau region and is the extreme sports capital of the world. Stay at the animal house hostel, the back is crazy at night. A single room with 2 beds is like $40. Balmers down the street is where the tourists go, the animal house is where the locals hangout.

See if Pinzel is still working the bar out back. Go canyoning, white water rafting or jump out of an airplane all within a few minutes of each other. Great locals, fun times and SUPER adventurous spirit. (Canyoning is by far the funnest, craziest thing I've ever done)
