Red lumber got popular along the shore after Sandy because it was mold/ rot resistant. I believe that brand also had fire retardant properties, but it was mainly used for moisture

It’s truly a sad day today. Today the world lost a great man named Dale Jones in Watertown, South Dakota. Dale was helping a motorist out of the ditch this morning when he was fatally struck by another motorist.

For many of us in law-enforcement in the northeast part of South Dakota, we all knew Dale, a wrecker operator for Performance Towing. I use the word wrecker operator but to be honest, the profession is more of a rescuer. Dale like many in the profession work late nights , early mornings , in blizzards, in every weather imaginable ... and why do they ? To rescue those in need, therefore Dale shall ever be known to me as a “Rescuer”.

Dale was one of a kind, he was a man that had a deep amount of joy. He was the type of guy whom could get you to laugh in but a few minutes of time with him. It was definitely a gift he had and he was always willing to share it with others.

As for those of us in law enforcement , Dale was always there for us! Not just to tow a vehicle , but to help in anyway he could. Over the years working along side with Dale, there were so many times Dale would shut someone down who was verbally tearing into is. Dale would always say he’d be the first guy with a crow bar in hand to help protect anyone trying to physically harm us. Dales appreciation and respect for those of us in law-enforcement was unending and will be greatly missed.

You see , Dale didn’t wear a badge or gun on his hip in his job as a rescuer, but he still was able to protect and serve. He served and protected others by getting them out of unsafe incidents on the roadways. He believed in helping others out in action and helping those who needed some truth when it was needed as well.

Over time Dale become more than just another tow operator who worked along side me as a law enforcement Officer , he become a good Friend. He was always willing to give me a hand with a project or give advise when I was stumped with a project. He was always willing to help a person in need, it was another gift of his , serving others.

To try and describe Dale in short, I would have to say a he was a “velvet covered man of steel”.

Dale gave all those he encountered with, gifts; his gift of joy, of service, and of truth. These gifts Dale had and shared , I identified with and helped to influence me and for that I am eternally grateful.

Dales legacy will be that of who he was, a friend, one who was filled with joy, service, and truth. He may have been taken from us too soon, but he will never be forgotten, as his legacy shall live on in those of us who knew him.

Through my sadness and mourning I have turned to God for help, for comfort. Today was a reminder at just how short life can be , how little time we can have here in this world. As Jesus said , I am the Truth , the Light, who ever believes in me shall never perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). I am hopeful for all that knew Dale and experienced those gifts he had , seek God now in their time of mourning , and find God with open arms to help comfort and love them.

I leave you with John 14:27 where Jesus said “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you not as the world gives do I give you, let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

May the God of peace and love pour out his immense love and support to all who hurt , all who grief the loss of such a great man , in Jesus name I pray.

His funeral was today. I live stream local radio station.

They were advising people in our little town to take alternative routes because between wreckers, first responder rigs, ambulances, LEO vehicles..... there was over 300 vehicles .

Still trying to wrap my head around my 6 year old grand niece getting a laptop computer and a Barbie doll all in the same day at Christmas.

They use them in school and are expected to have access to them at home.

With all the building activity going on here in port aransas, if you're a contractor and not making some GREAT coin... you're doing something terribly wrong.

I’m amazed by what people are willing to pay for small repairs. Should have bought this van years ago.

You should have seen the shoddy building practices before the hurricane. Everyone always got a buddy to build things in his spare time on the cheap. Local workforce sucked bigtime, hungover, still drunk/drugged up or out fishing. It took a hurricane to wake folks up to use construction professionals.
