I was amazed at the difference going from the 5" Bosch sander to the festool ets 125, I couldn't figure why I didn't switch sooner

You should try a Mirka Deros.

I've used both, I prefer the ETS 125 and RTS for between coats sanding.

The Deros isn't a finish sander. Try the Deos then. Love mine. Changed the way I did a lot of things.

Love that I have A/C in the shop

Hate that it doesn't include the sprayroom.

91 outside

88 on the side without A/C

85 in the sprayroom

<72 in the shop.

Re: Things You Love & Hate

Hate(d) the phone update my S8 got. Took it from a professional look to a cartoonish look. Moved some things around, eliminated the icon that told me my hotspot was on and a bunch of other little things.

Love that the battery life is even better. I got off work at 6:30 and didn't touch my phone until I went to put it on the charger at midnight. It was still at 100% (full charge when I left the shop). So I didn't put it on the charger. At 5am it was at 99% So it went from 6:30p to 5am on 1% reduction in charge.

Before the update it would lose 4-6% overnight (7hrs)

Re: Things You Love & Hate

More love than hate!

Love that I just picked up an engine stand for 20$ and didn't have to go anywhere.
Hate (just a little) that I feel like I stole money from Habit for Humanity.

As I'm walking out of Restore with a couple items, a beautiful home-built trailer with whitewalls, heading to the back of the facility, catches my eye and sticking up over the sideboards I see an orange engine mounting plate.

I've been looking for a reasonably priced stand near me for some time.
So I throw my stuff in the Buick and walk swiftly to the back.
By the time I get there the gentleman is already up on the ramp untying the engine stand with the 3 volunteers swarming around the back of the trailer.
I ask him if I can make him an offer, he says sure, I say 20$, done.

I could probably have gone less, after all he was about to give it away but that was a fair price, and I didn't have to go pick it up and the volunteers didn't seem to care.

Right place, right time. I love that.

D.

Re: Things You Love & Hate

I don't know how you still work in NYC, man.

Now that I've gone a little west I've completely cut NYC out of my life. Doesn't matter what the job is, I'm not doing it.
I'm in the middle of a big project in Jersey City right now and I can barely hack it doing that.
Summertime commute back home isn't so bad, though. I actually only hit about 100 yards of traffic at the bridge in Newark yesterday. I'll take it.

That's still too often lol

15 or so years ago I was in St Louis opening a Borders, and one of the women on staff asked if I went to NYC a lot because it was only about an hour away. I just laughed and said no, I avoid the place

That's a clear red flag that the customer probably will refuse to see.

If the customer thought you were charging too much, wait until he sees how much itís going to cost when the other guy bails halfway through.
