The VERY last person I'd want to be in a foxhole with...under enemy fire.

Put the joint down and pay attention.....

Re: Things I Hate (3)

I work for and have made friends with a couple of retired Colonels who served in Vietnam...West Point grads.

Had an in-depth conversation a month ago with one of them. He was in the field...in the jungle...a Captain.

I asked him what the major, major malfunction was with the troops during that time was.

Without hesitation...marijuana.

This is one of my Colonel friends who leans more on the liberal side.

I wouldn't want to share a foxhole or depend on someone who stays stoned.

My first post was about caulk. Another petty problem.

I should go update that post. The answer is Dap 3.0

Anybody left around there still say "oleo"?

That reminds me of my grandmother. "oleo...fridgidaire.."

Btw, why are sticks of butter labeled "butter", while sticks of margarine aren't labeled anything? (I like frying eggs in a little bit of margarine.)

Re: Things I Hate (3)

When "oleomargarine" was first introduced, it was white, and came with a packet of yellow coloring. This, because the dairy farmers complained and succeeded in convincing the legislature that oleo would damage their butter market.

This, I learned from my mom, a gal that grew up on a dairy farm during the Depression.

Maybe plastering "butter" on the wrapping is a holdover from that era.

The term "oleo" comes all the way up from Latin. Just means "oil". The first suspension for aircraft using oil filled cylinders was invented by a French guy, and he and the aircraft industry referred to them as "oleo struts".

A couple of the old guys at the airfield where I played with planes and later worked, still called them by that name.

Another useless bit of trivia.
