Re: Things I Hate (2)

It's not much. But it's better that you know it has been sent out, and then actually delivered.

Much better than the old days when you'd order something, wait 4-6 weeks for it to be sent out and hope the company you ordered it from didn't just take your money.

Re: Things I Hate (2)

It's fun to watch the UPS system track your parcel from there to here. It's really not necessary. Sent, day it will be delivered and when delivered is good enough.

I know a guy who works there and he always calls the place OOPS.

I don't know if I "hate" it, or if it's just more frustrating, but I'm really getting tired of my suppliers not knowing about anything but the most basic $^&T.

Closed bottom bond beam. "What is that?"

Liquid flashing. "Never heard of it."

Plywood underlayment. "Uh..we got 3/4" A/C plywood. Will that work?"

Perlite. ......Blank stare.

Don't the buyers from the largest lumber yards in the county keep up on stuff?

Customers that go your to high on price I have cheaper prices do you want to lower your price.

My response to this for 2019 is I'm sorry we could not meet your price range thank you for the opportunity to bid the job.

I'm so swamped I don't have time to go back and forth on price. Should have started this way earlier.

If you don't want to deal with that then the answer is... "You should go with them then"

Usually they will say we like you, your company etc. Then you always come back with that's why we are a little more expensive, we have that type of experience.

You may have to explain to them how to use "The Google".

I had a hand in "training" my previous lumberyard.

Had to tell them that "Do It Best" hammers and tape measures were not going to make them a go-to place for Contractor tools.

They ended up having a massive selection of Milwaukee. Just so happens Milwaukee is my main brand.

Then the owners fought, and the yard got shut down.

I told the guy at the yard I use now, that I'll send him some info on liquid flashing products. He literally had never heard of them.

But, to their credit, they have decided to....wait for it....begin stocking....... flexible corner bead. You know, like for doing....DRYWALL ARCHES. High end s%^T right there.

I have my work cut out for me.

Going through the same deal now. I won't get my truck back till next week. It might be that trucks last trip to the shop on my bill.

Re: Things I Hate (2)

I had a car crap during the holidays, no place to take it. I fixed it out in the driveway. When my hands started freezing, I'd just go in and wash some dishes in hot hot water.

It had already been "fixed" by 2 different garages.

Re: Things I Hate (2)

My go-to mechanic has gotten to big. Now I'm just another number.
He used to take really good care of me.
We were friends/neighbors when he left the dealership and hung out his own shingle. His business has grown HUGE over the years. I'm very happy for him.
Just my over-all service has gone to the dogs.

Make sure you tell him that. He may try to prioritize you better.

That's like reminding a builder of all the extras you've thrown in over the years .. memories seem to fade over time
