Re: Things I Hate

I hate getting caught up in someone else's embezzlement scam, & being the client to expose it to corporate. ...

An employee went around and picked up all the worn insert bits tossed on the floor by the drywall hangers, and put them in the box with the new ones. Just a little funny, really.

Not much of a story, but here goes...

Been painting an apartment complex since May. Net 30, so no big deal. We chug along and rack up $10,000. June rolls around, first check rolls in for $7,000. Whoopsie! So I start calling the local property manager, AND corporate to see what's up. Corporate immediately cathes me up and even put me on a bi-weekly pay period as a way to stay in my good graces So we keep on keeping on getting paid bi-weekly until last friday. Go in expecting a check for around $3000 and get a check for $650 So I immediately ask the local skeez what's up. She tries to say she never received any invoices I pull out the cell phone, open up the quickbooks online app, and show her that she viewed the invoices 9 days ago Boy you should have seen her start squirming And here come the excuses! By the time I walk out, it's all sorted out and invoices are re-entered and should be at the office friday (tomorrow)

Well, today I sent a brief email making sure payment would be there tomorrow, and she replied back it's going to be another week

You see, when the local idiots give me a run around, I like to bypass them and go to the top. So, naturally a phone call to corporate was in order. Imagine my surprise when corporate said that not only were the invoices paid, some of them were paid TWICE! After 30 minutes, a check is on the way to me for balance due, and an investigation is opened into finding out where the missing funds are. Seems like the local idiot has been dipping her hands in the cookie jar...

I make it a rule to ALWAYS know corporate's number in case of shenanigans like this. The sad thing is 9 out 10 times corporate WANTS to pay you for work completed, it's the locals who eff it up. Whether it's trying to look like they came in under their quarterly budget, or any number of other excuses. Every single time I have had called corporate, I get paid for ALL outstanding invoices immediately.

Sometimes I wish I could just deal with corporate directly.

I hate getting paid 20 cents on the dollar for something they owed for almost 2 years. Bastids.

Re: Things I Hate

Built a couple of Sapele curved desks for a eye doctors office. The project was run by the company that hired me to make the desks. At the end of the project the owner refused to pay for about 45K worth of work. Of that was my final payment of $1900.00. This has been going on for 2 years now. It was suppose to go to binding arbitration which was suppose to mean they go before a judge and the decision is final. They lost. Then somehow they appealed the decision. I didn't know that could happen, as the decision was suppose to be final. So it went on and on and on. Finally, just recently the other sides lawyer said they were going to have the whole thing started up again from the beginning with a new judge and it would start in 18 months. They decided to settle and 15 cents on the dollar was the decision. The guy is/was a acquaintance/friend of mine and gave me 20 cents on the dollar. I feel sorry for the electrician and plumber as they were owed the bulk of the money.

No warranty for the owner. And I'm not done with her. She still owes me the money as far as I'm concerned. I was told the binding arbitration was final and the decision couldn't be appealed. And that didn't happen. They lied. I could have accepted the decision, but the fact that the lawyers treated it like a normal case and not binding arbitration makes the agreement I signed null and void.

Absolutely beautiful work. Makes me mad when a craftsman doesn't get his due.

That's a shame, Leo. I remember you showing us the project here, describing the veneer work.

Re: Things I Hate

Of course I can. I'd be arrested and thrown in jail and probably sued for destroying her business. But that's besides the point.

Not very optimistic are you?

I have seen it done for much less an infraction than a debt of $1900

Re: Things I Hate

Childhood friend hit by car and passed on Sunday (hit and run), left the girlfriend (and cats, and dog) on Monday, followed by three 13 hour days. Toss a little bit of living with four other people (temporarily) for the first time in the better part of a decade and I'm feeling weird. And worn out. And ready for at least 28 beers.
