Watch the schedules fall, just like dominoes. Lots of that going on right now.

Re: Things I Hate

Seeing that San Francisco Victoriana, an amazing millworks and decorative supplies vendor, has closed their doors after 42 years. Unbelievable selection, fantastic service and wonderful people, gone.

There are some other good local options, but I will sure miss them.

Our cabinetmaker is the same way right now. Says he'll be there, then skips out. The painter can't paint because I'm not done the baseboards. I can't finish the base till the cabinets are in and who knows when that will happen. I'm starting to think we're going to miss peak season for opening the showhome.

Re: Things I Hate

Had a GC do that to me with a kitchen. 3 weeks. Really messed up my schedule. I had another project to do for the client and that along with the kitchen should have been finished 1 week ago. Tomorrow I'll be delivering the last bunch of cabinets and start up the install. Should finish up on the install on Monday.

Right now I'm that guy too. I wasn't able to do three vanities so I gave the job to the guy who I use for installation help. It was a really tight timeline because the client kept in decision mode. I finally told them I'll need a check to get going or I won't make the schedule.

Well it was too much to do in to short a period of time. It's only 3 vanities, but one is 8' long, another is 7' long and the other is pretty fancy. One is painted and the others are stained similar. I've already told the client that I'm embarrassed with my timing. Since my buddy was in the hole for time I helped out. Two of the 4 days were 17 hours each. Finishing difficulties were mostly to cause. And one of the vanities took 5 hours to assemble.

She said she'd rather it come out nice then get it on time wrong.

Re: Things I Hate

I forgot, I have two things today. I hate when we jackhammer through a two layer patio, 10" of concrete, and then dig down two more feet to hit a really thin walled pvc pipe. Turns out someone decided to use that as a waste line for the basement bathroom rather than go to all the hassle of pumping it up to the sewer line.

Put in the base and get it painted. I've done it before

Re: Things I Hate

I'm putting in base where ever it isn't running into cabinetry so at least that will be ready.

But we had to turn over a house to the clients without the cabinets finished because of this guy. In talking to his workers (he's only got 2) they have 24 jobs spread over 600 kilometres. I understand he's bit off more than he can chew but don't say you'll be there and skip out. If you say you can't be there then we can schedule around that.

Re: Things I Hate

Receiving a call from a woman at 9:30 at night to confirm I am starting her job on July 13 (for whom her brother is acting as a middleman of sorts).. and having to tell her "Sorry, but I gave your brother the price, and he never got back to me. I can't put you in the calendar without a signed contract and a down payment". Ooooh she is gonna kill her brother. She basically hung up on me.

Extreme weather, the weather recorder shows for the last 24 hours a high of 80F, High of 98% Humidity and a low of 80F, low of 98% humidity. Only on Guam is that possible?

Back on the farm in Missouri we'd see 100+ degrees, 100% humidity sometimes.

Sounds like a typical summer in Ottawa.

Although this year has been cold and low humidity with quite a bit of rain.

It's been nice. Even on the hot days it's been lowish humidity
