I had my appendix removed. It sucked!. First because the dr's couldn't figure out what was wrong with me and I kept telling them it wasn't my appendix and I didn't want them to take it out. So they knocked me out and had my mother sign off on it and took it out anyway. BASTARDS. When I woke up I was so pissed off. I didn't know what had happened and the nurse wouldn't tell me what was going on. 3 of my friends from east texas, my brother, my daughter and her dad from houston were standing around my bed just looking at me..

When I saw my stomach all bandaged up, I was mortified! asking the nurse what did they do to me? She wouldnt answer me and it infuriated me. I was in so much pain and she was being such a bitch. I kept asking her to show me my chart because i wanted to see what they did to me and she wouldnt give it to me so i just started yelling at the top of my lungs for her to give me my chart...

I was intentionally being THAT patient. Lol. finally she just shoved something in my hand and said "HERE!" It was then I realized I was too f'ed up to even read the words on the chart..lol.. but I did my damnedest to focus.. and when I did focus for a second, I was reading the frecking lunch menu... That bitch just grabbed whatever and gave it to me to shut me up. So of course what do I do? I throw the menu at her and tell her "Bitch this isnt my chart, I may be f'ed up but Im not f'in stupid!" My brother kept telling me to calm down and I was like, "DONT TELL ME TO CALM DOWN! Get the freckin doctor in here! and get that BITCH outta here!" (That pissed the nurse off pretty good and she left and slammed the door) yes!

I pulled the bandage off and holy crap my stomach looked like they did an autopsy on me and stitched me back up with yarn in someone's garage. I was so upset and felt so violated... I felt ruined, like there was nothing I could do now, I was just going to be all scared up with a ugly belly button..

Finally my brother comes back in with the doctor on the phone and he tells me what happened and tells me bro that its a very painful surgery and asks him to ask the nurse if I was on a morphine drip... the nurse comes back in and was like YES she is on a drip but she shouldn't be! The surgery is over and she shouldn't be in any pain.. and my brother picks up the morphine tube and says "um is this the morphine? because its not even connected and its dripping all on the floor." Stupid nurse bitch.

The dr didn't come see me for 3 days and when he did, he said you should be up and walking around.. and I said, well seeing how I'm in twice as much pain now I can't walk around. And he said, oh you don't feel better? I said, um NO I DONT FEEL BETTER I FEEL WORSE BECAUSE ON TOP OF THE PAIN I CAME IN HERE FOR, NOW I HAVE MORE PAIN FROM THE SURGERY! and he said, oh I think you feel better you just don't know it yet. ??!#!!!! [email protected]$/&*\/?-÷

I told him, "Youll know when I feel better because youll see me standing by your car in the parking lot waiting for you to get off work."

HANDS DOWN WORSE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. The 7 days I was there, I swear I thought I was still in the military and in a 3rd world country hospital. Seriously. I don't know if it was the morphine or the conditions but I really couldn't figure out why I was in guam and more so how my daughter got there. Lol Yeah, my kids dad just left my 2 1/2 yr old daughter at the hospital w me like I was in any condition to take care of her. IDIOT

So the second I was able to walk I gathered all my things and told my kid, baby we are fixing to go home, but we arent supposed to leave so we have to be real quiet when we go by the nurses station ok? stay real close to me and don't run off, and let's be real quiet.. and she said Ok mama... so we make our move and we get to the elevator, the door opens and we step in and my kid turns around, sticks her head out the door and yells "BYYYYE BYYYYE!" to all the nurses.. lol..

All i could do was laugh... and she didnt know whst she was doing, but because i was laughing, she started laughing and that made me laugh even more...and we were both cracking up giggling and the elevator door opens and all the nurses were standing there waiting on us..

I was like DAMN! Busted. Back to my cell We went.

BUT the best part is a few weeks later I get a bill in the mail for $35,000! THEY MUST BE OUT THEY DAMN MIND! $35,000????? REALLY? for a surgery I didn't need, Told them NOT to do, refused to consent to so they knock me out with out warning and get my mom to sign off on it even though out of the 8 or so tests they give you when trying to determine if an emergency appendectomy is in order, I scored zero on every one... then treated me like a prisoner of war in a bamboo cage poking me with sticks n sh17 for a week, starving me, not giving me medical attention as I laid there in agony. And they had the nerve to bill me $35,000!?

Yeah right. Yal don't even want to know what I said to them when I got that bill but I'm pretty sure the guy in the billing department has never heard so many cuss words in one phone call in his life. He actually felt bad for me and adjusted my bill to $20,000. I told him thanks but the only thing I was paying for was my er visit, all the tests they ran, the morphine and any other meds they gave me. That came to about 5 k. They wrote the rest off eventually. .. as they should have.

Not having your appendix makes you very nauseaus for a long time btw. It took me about 2-3 months to start feeling like myself again... but really I don't think Ive felt the same since. I Just got used to feeling this way.

I HATE THAT

Wait. So was your appendix really bad, or did they just want to get you in bed? (hospital bed)

Re: Things I Hate

I hate having to listen to HO continually yelling nasty threats at curious 5 yr old kid. Sure he's a brat and does whatever he wants regardless of what he's threatened with, but who taught him to be that way? If you threaten to rip his arms off, then be prepared to do it. Otherwise don't bother with all the noise. It makes me sick to see kids treated like that.

No it wasn't bad. I don't know why they did it. I told them it wasn't my appendnix 100 times. When I got to the er, this dr walked in my room and I swear he was so coked up he was vibrating. He opened the door and his eyes were about 3 inches around and his dreadlocks were flopping around with him standing still. I started shaking my head and said oh hell no... hell no.. then he vibrated over to my bed and ask me where it hurt and I told him from my chest to my hips on both sides.. so basically my entire front torso. So he puts his hands on my stomach and ribs and pushed and my muscles seized up so tight it like collapsed my lungs or something and I was literally suffocating. .. I couldn't even gasp for air, my lungs just wouldn't expand... finally after about 45 seconds they opened back up and the stupid mf did it again! Tears were just pouring out of my eyes and when he pushed on me and my muscles seized up it literally lunged me forward into a sitting position... and the second time he did it I reached up and grabbed the front of his shirt with both my fists and held on to him until I could breathe again...and the first breath I took I told him "mf if you touch me again I'm going to kill you" then I let go of him with a push and told him to get the f out of my room.

He got out with the quickness.

Stupid dumb idiot.

How old were you? Can your mom consent if you're an adult? Seems like a crazy hospital

Next to kin can consent if the patient can't.

I had my appendix out in 2009. The doctor said I was lucky to be alive as it had ruptured but cocooned itself and the poison was contained. He thought it had been that way for a year or so.
Don't remember it rupturing or any abnormal pain.

Hospital admission forms may have a place for you to designate someone who can give consent. Someone has to be able to if you aren't able to give it.

I'm betting they told M they were giving her something to relieve the pain, but didn't tell her it would knock her out. There are a number of tricks doctors and nurses use to do what they want instead of what you want.

First I heard of that - I imagine you were dragging for quite awhile until it was found.

Here’s the good news for patients like Martha: The appendix is surrounded by other structures, mostly the intestine, and so, as she was told, the seepage can get “walled off.” One theory, Dr. Smink said, is that a somewhat mobile layer of visceral fat called the omentum — nicknamed “the policeman of the abdomen” — could be drawn toward areas of inflammation to contain infection. So a patient can end up with a pus-filled abscess outside the appendix, covered partially by the omentum.

There's also "implied consent". Basically, it's says it's fair to assume that if you were able to, (either conscious if your currently unconscious, or in a normal mental status if your now altered) you'd want whatever needs to be done to be done. That's what gives Drs and ems personnel the right to work on someone who's out of it.
