Re: There Has Got To Be A Better Way To Split Logs

I'd consider using some if them

I designed a woodsplitter. The mechanism was kind if a cross between the gas mechanism if an AK 47 and a spud gun.

It would wind up jumping around some, and there had to be guards to stop the flying pieces if wood.

GF didn't like the idea of hearing explosions every time I split wood.

The first one is awesome. Except for the grab your arm and smash it to bits part. But the physics of it is good.

Re: There Has Got To Be A Better Way To Split Logs

I bought my first two pairs of crocs at the same time recently. I used one to go outside and cut trim and the other to install the trim inside without having to put anything down as I can through the door. It actually worked pretty great. Almost cost me my relationship when my girlfriend saw I bought them though.

Re: There Has Got To Be A Better Way To Split Logs

I'd use the first one and probably the 3rd one. 2nd one is a big hell no. And the 4th one isn't making firewood, he's just making mince meat out of what could be good burning logs.

Re: There Has Got To Be A Better Way To Split Logs

That's still slow. You have to stand all the stuff up first. Much faster is to just leave it in a pile and split it where it lays. I'll do that with just one axe, but some will do it with 2 axes.

Rack & pinion kinetic splitter...
I built one of these almost 40 years ago, utilizing a 3.75/1 van diff, with std engine flywheel on the input yoke. Cycle time was about 2.5 seconds. I still have it but haven't fired up in 35 years.

WoodMaxx claims 3 second cycle time, but it's clearly about 2 seconds in video.
